the nice thing about lacquer is if it gets scratched you can buff it out easy and if too bad just wet sand down, hit it once or twice with a new coat and polish it back up. i like purdy guns, but i like shooting them even more!

I polished up the 39a this morning. Gave here a rub down and tighted the screws a bit.
She is wearing a scope in 3-9 that is much to large but it was my only one with lighted retical so it stayed on all fall and winter. It did dispatch 2 coons this winter at night raid sthe area. Was nice to see the Xharis at night.
The mounties stayed safe and warm, All tree rats went out with pistols.
Still looking for a second m8 6 power fixed for the 39a full sized rifle. I might buy a rifle with one on it and sell off the rifle if it has the target dot on it. I love those scope for hunting, Good mag without changing, ok off the bench to 50 m.
I have changed my additude with scopes of late. I will get a good one or two or three and share the wealth with QD rings. I just have to save up the cash, Vortex seems to be the leading canadate since my friend at AAA optics will make me good deals on multiple scopes at once.
JIMH the big question is how does it shoot.

well i finally got out this past weekend and was able to throw a few down the tube. the site i bought had been off of a similar year mounty as well some 20 somthing years ago. anyway i screwed it on and without touching any of the current settings we all were able to hit the spinning steel rimfire targets at 25 yrds at will. the kids were haveing so much fun with it i couldn't get them to give it up for any length of time for me to try and fine tune it. anyway i'm pleased as punch and i'll get back out with it one day by myself and tweek it if it needs it. ;D

Well today after turkey hunting my son and I threw a few more rounds down the pipe from a bit of a rest and I ended up using half a turn of the screw for windage adjustment to bring the POI over about 1". After that it was plinking time with the self setting rimfire target. I tried to rack a few as fast as I could and the rifle went flawlessly every time. I'm a happy guy.

The M's handle so well in the field you got a winner in that one.
Which old peep sight did you get ahold of the redfield or lyman. A peep sighted mountie it does not get much bettter than that.

Lyman receiver mount. Would love a tang mount in terms of COOL looks but the Lyman actually looks good on it with it being the shorter mounty model. When I had the whole thing broke down this winter I polished the bolt and the guides it slides along with flitz as well as all pivot points and mating surfaces. I used a small bore mop to clean and also polish the inside of the magazine tube and the brass tube with the spring inside. It's amazing how much crud can get in those places over 30 something years.

Oh and if I had an extra 450.00 right now I would pick up that 1950 39A for sale on rimfirecentral right now in a New York min to complement the mounty.

Here is my old 336 SC with the steel Lyman sight. A very good represenative of 1956. The sc had the 2/3 tube and the perch belly forearm. The older 39a in various forms around here ran about 390 until Newtown. The 1950's 39a I got I trade this for. for this: One of the best straight up trades I have ever made.
