Red what you really need is a nice Ruger M77 in .243.

Jim call marlin for the bullseye. Marlin used to give them out for free but with the takeover maybe not now. When the wood shrinks they fall out. I replaced one on the 1950's mountie and it was easy. Added a bit of wood glue and stuck it in. I have also seen lots of people think it is a great plae to sink a sling swivel.
They also used to reblue and revamp any marlin less than 50 years old for a nice price. The reblue and rework was normally done in a couple of months and ran around 75 dollars. A 75 dollar factory refurbish (I have done it 3 times) Was a great deal. No longer can this be done with the new ownership nor with what they produce now would I want them to.
The texans feature a few things I really like in a rifle, A short 18.5 inch barrel. A straight stock.
Glenfield made texan models (Not texans marlins with a bullseye since that was only on the walnut stocks) a birch stock with oak leaves pressed in and the 336 action and barrel. old them mainly at KMart and big five stores. A great deal to find one of those. The rimfire rifile that red is most like talking about are the 1887 rimfire reintroductions. A great rifle and in a way the same thing as the 39a. I have a laminate stock 22 mag It is a 983s and 250 left the factory with the bullseye in the laminate stock. I got a liine on one and made a great deal on it from my local gun pusher. You are not going to find any of them around.
All red needs is another Ruger. Or smith model 60. Red maybe you should sell off that last points deal then use up your points.

yea I'm thinking about refinishing the stock on this one down the road. I don't care if it hurts value any as I don't intend to sell it. I'll be shooting this one over the weekend and see if everything else is up to snuf.

I don't care if it hurts value any as I don't intend to sell it. Heard that before no, not once i decide i'll not sell a particular gun it stays. but until it has ear marked a spot in my heart then anything is negotiable if the right deal stumbles along. ;D

I'll be interested to see if that 1954 39A sells for that. My Dad has an identical rifle, I believe from 1955- peep sight and all, although the sight might be a Lyman.

That is about right. it brings 600. I would expect it to come close. I would say more likely 550 or 600 shipped. It is in nice shape for a 1954. Rimfire central is not an auction sight and deals trades or reasinable offers normally get stuff moved, Remeber also that the MSRP on a new crappy remlin 39AS with crossbolt safety and rebounding hammer is 539. For that you get a nice piece of wood that marlin must think looks the most like plastic and a barrel canted to the right or drooping down. So lets say brand new 500 and 75 for the peep and tax. of what 7% or 600 and 25 to ship and 25 FFL. I would buy used. 615 new 650 used. I can get them in average shape at 390 but remember that is no mountie. The redfield peep although nice is only a 75 dollars addition to the price. The steel Lyyman model 66's seem to bring more and the tang sights are 200 or better now. Lyman switched from steel to alum. at some time so break out the magnet to check them. Jim did it shoot good enough to scope it up? If you did not get a mount I might have one left ovre I will check. SWFA has some nice prices of sightron scopes right now the big sky series and SI. Comparable to the nilons/Leopold X-II swfa.com/Sightron-Closeouts-C4847.aspx?s=Name ASC&p=0 Nothing jumps out for a mountie If i was going to scope it I think i would look at this with low warne QD rings. swfa.com/Leupold-4x28-FX-I-Rimfire-Riflescope-P3256.aspx

it has a scope rail but I took it off. what I do need is the filler screws for the action. but I may end up putting the skinnner peep sight on it and that will mount directly into the scope rail screw holes. yes I do think this one will shoot well enough to justify a scope but I'm going to try and go non scope.

www.gun-parts.com/marlin/Jimh I do not have an extra but I have a guy near your neck of the woods that I get my missing marlin stuff from. I think they were a marlin certified repair center for years, They have the old round front sight hoods that are missing on the old rifles. Lots of people took them off or if stored in a soft gun case they often came off in the case. So you are going to scope it up a bit. I think the hammer extensions are 15 dollars at Bob's. There are two types of hammer extensions. You need the newer style. They also carry marlin branded peeps and such. I bought a whole stock set for a model 36 once I redid. I paid 60 dollars for the butstock finished and it was less than Marlin wanted for one and Marlin then called back and canceled my order and said they were all gone. I bet they even had Twomoons model 101 bolt but twomoons does not need a parts dealer he is a parts maker.

well I got a line on a new old stock one. now to find out how much he wants for it. I'm thinking I just might pull the stock this week and strip it. I'm leaning to doing a true oil finish on it.

well if things go well i'll end up haveing it all stripped and sanded this weekend. i'll need to steam a few dents out too. I'm still on the fence on what finish i'll end up using. i just couldn't get to the stock these last couple weeks, i had to get out and shoot me some sandwich size deer first, but a guy has to have his priorities in the right order.
