WE have a deal with the guy who now farms the family land. When corn is in certian fields he leaves 3 rows of it about 30 yards off from the fenceline in the field.
Just 3 rows but it provides a screen for walking in for us and makes the deer feel comfortable since it blocks the view of them from the road/houses. Since the farmer is mainly a waterfowl hunter he said it would be neat to feed the animals a little taste. I guess he is a deer hunter also but does much of his hunting while farming.
From a stand you can see anything moving on the other side of the corn rows but 4 rows was to much to see though. I think it helps in the winters but the coon and tree rats eat more of it than the deer.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I doubt that it was the whole herd, I have hunted in the past years there after blue tongue went through and it never gets them all or even close to it. Seems some of them are smart enough to stay away from the bottom land and away from the bugs carrying the disease. Problem IS is there were so many deer in the area around you that even a 50% loss looks huge but the numbers left are still better than some of the years past. The last few years the deer herd has been huge in your area and is probably down to what it had been in the years I hunted there.

We got a killer frost the last few mornings. I still have 3 praying mantis that come to my windows to survive and feed on the bugs at night. I think the midge population is dead.
I am sure up north that is now a done deal. As far as morgan county indiana it should be close. We have had nothing and I have seen many deer but just 2 bucks. They were together and one was a 8 point basket rack. The other i just caught a glimpse of. He is a big one.
Pike county IL had 2,000 reported dead. I am sure that is not something they want in the news as the prices they get for hunting them is very high.

I shot some nice deer at the catch pin. Not near as many as some of the other places though. Its just an easy place to get to is all. Me I am going to pass on this season. With the rancher I hunt on having mostly all grass land and as dry as it is I really don't want to burn him out by driving through it .

The catch pen is a Funnel for deer in a very large areia so if their is deer thay will pass through and can be had.

Hey guys, newbie here from Alabama. Just wanted to ask what part of Nebraska you guys have been talking about? I have hunted the Omaha Reservation twice and loved going there, headed to the Santee next month. I noticed a couple of places where Indian land was mentioned and couldn't figure out where you are talking about. I hate it for y'all that this is happening. Floods, then a drought and now EHD has had to have made an impact on the herd there. Maybe you will get a milder than normal winter to offset it some. I can't imagine what we would have here with an EHD outbreak as bad as this. We have it here but I have never known of one that was even close to what is happening up there. Let's just hope that particular disease never mutates somehow to where it can infect humans.

Did a "quick" trip on the south 1/4 mile of my creek. Found another 3X4 w/ about a 16" spread dead on the bank.... Tomorrow I'll do a trip on everything I've been checking. This will be the first time out in Three weeks. The one today makes 31 dead on my place and 112 dead in 1 1/2 miles of creek bottom.

Well there are 7 of us coming, 3 of us are staying at Swansons Pheasant lodge and the other 4 are staying at Mrs. Swansons other place. I have never been there but 3 of the group have including 1 who hunted with me at Macy about four years ago. I called Don there at the reservation and he talked like it wasn't that bad and they still have too many deer. Guess we will see in a month.
