Looks like the recalling some of the South Dakota permits they put out for South Central and Central South Dakota for Whitetail's. Seems we have the same problem up here and looks like it goes up along the James and the Missouri River. I wonder why it does not affect the Mule Deer unless its due to the fact that Mule Deer prefer the higher dryer area's. Dep-Don it don't look like your going to get to go to South Dakota and hunt whitetails and don't look like I am going to get to go either.

As to hunting S.D. Mitch goes by Buffalo S.D. Isn't that north of you ? Have you ever hunted close to there? Last year they (four of them) were done by 11:00 the first morning....

We got'em dropping like flies here... I talked to a biologist that I used to work with and he said if it don't stop soon, we could loose 1/3 the deer hurd in our state. Stuff's pretty bad.

Yup, Buffalo is north of me. I don't think there are any Buck tags left as when I went to get one for the area I hunt in the left overs were gone already. Doe tags only. I doubt that I will be going this year as the fire danger along with the doe tags only is really going to limit a persons access and I doubt that the guy I hunt on will want me running around in the area's I hunted in last year. Pretty tall grass and its pretty easy to set it off right now. Some of the farmers have quit driving out into their fields because when they do it starts a fire. We need rain bad.

We talked to a game Commission biologist in reference to the deer last week and he said," With brain worm, blue tongue and winter kill we expect the deer herd to be down up to 90% in Nebraska by January". Well at least they won't be eating the farmers bales this year.

Their starting to find a lot more up here in SD also. Looks like the population of Whitetail's is going to be down for a few years. That should make some of the big cattle ranchers happy up here as a lot of them get really upset with the Whitetails getting into their hay pile's. Most of them put 8' fences around them but when the snow starts drifting up against the fences and gets hard the deer just walk over it.
