What have I leared about a surrogator, 1. they do not extend you raiseing seasion by much if any at all. other than that I like it for quail, I will likely never raise pheasants in it though as I know I like my other pen better for them, in a surragator you would need to put blinders on each bird for pheasants and I have never done that and don't want to start. But for quail it's the best likely, and the most important thing I learned is follow the derections even when it seems wrong do it anyway just as it says. Depending on the rain forcast I will release my 1st surrogator batch friday, if rany will wait for dry forcast.

Boy that was a windy one, not leting them go with the threat of rain & wet grass for their fist hours free Maybe satuday or sunday now? Will take the best forcast I can get. Think this wait may make me need to add water though as it's geting low and their drinking heavy.

Bounce; This is kinda a store bought version of your original pen. I'm thinkin' now that all my fields west of the road along the creek bottom are enrolled in WRP I need to buy one for next year when I start building my bird haven.that way I can raise birds to get it jump started.... www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/portable_chicken_pen.html

DD I think to use it you would need to punch holes in each birds beak for a little plastic blinder as their would be no room for habitat as their is in mine. my surrogator would be like that as well for pheasants. You should come over and take a good look at both and visit some then go home and plan a even better one I think. I think you could weld one up your self better.
I was unable to learn more by computer with out contacting them about huns. But I did notice they were tied to differant hatchurys around the nation including the one in SD.

I may turn the quail lose today, wait for the greass to dry and see but the forcast all week long is not the best for realesing only thursday is dry and a bit cold at night and that gets worse as the week goes so today may be the best? I need to re-set the surrogator by thursday as friday morning is a new batch of quail again.

101 Quail set free, The derections say you can release two ways, open the big door & let them fly out or better yet open the little door and let them walk out, come back in about 2 hrs and close the little door, put feed & water a few yards out is good also. I did the later and I can still look out my window or out the door and see several, was the most fun release yet. Think it's safe to say I have quail at my place now lol.
