ok so it's no Rem XP but have you ever tried to find a XP that someone was willing to let go much less at a decent price. heck these savage strikers are getting hard to come by. i have a deal in the works to pick up a savage striker in 7-08. it is a center grip model stock, left bolt right port repeater in S.S. thing about it being a savage, i could swap out the barrel for .243, .308, 338 fed without too much effort. however even at a 7-08 i have to think this thing is gonna be felt a tad when touched off. i'll let you know how i did once i actualy get this thing. hopefully within the next two weeks.

I have shot a .22 Rimfire Striker and they are Damn Nice!! If you can get one at a fair price I think you will like it. Bullseye is the one you need to talk to. I think he has one, i'm thinking it's .243 but could be mistaken. Personally I think the 7-08 would be perfect w/o out any changes. You already have a 7-08 don't you? No need to change ammo. Are you reloading yet? You could download it a bit and still have a sweet deer handgun. I can't use a bottleneck cartridge handgun in Iowa or would have one for sure.

You will like the striker. IN 7-08 it should not kick as bad as you would think.
My 35 rem 14 inch contender, while loud and a fire breather is fine to shoot all day off a bench with no hand or wrist fatigue. The is with 200 grain core loc's and 180 grain federal at around 2000. You 7 mm bullets will be lighter than that but pushed faster.
the Only striker I have shoot was in 243 and it was quite accurate. I love handcannons.

yep have a 7-08 all ready as well as a .243 i'm thinking that box of rem manage recoil ammo might just be the ticket in that thing for say 75 yrd shots or so.

Leave it to the glass half empty guy, but I think you have to look at the ballistics on the 7-08 when it comes to the managed recoil loads. Frankly, anyone who can't handle a regular 7-08 load had best stick with the 22lr assuming that doesn't have too much recoil. Regular loads from a RIFLE: 2860fps @ muzzle 2542ftlbs @ muzzle Reduced loads from a RIFLE: 2300fps @ muzzle 1644ftlbs @ muzzle Now if you try to shoot the managed recoil loads through a shorter barrel, you're going to lose even more significant velocity and energy. We're probably looking at 2000fps at the muzzle and maybe 1300ftlbs. Do you concider the 7-08 to be a 400 yard cartridge? Because that's what a reduced load from a Striker is going to be at 75 yards

I think, and I hate recoil, that the 7mm-08 should be manageable with no problem. Those Strikers have a break on them, don't they? But, those handguns chambered for rifle cartridges are really a reloaders gun, in my eyes. Factory ammo is tailored to longer rifle barrels. If you handload you should be able to make much more efficient loads, with faster burning powders, that will equal or exceed factory loads with a little less recoil and a lot less fire. As far as the reduced recoil loads, they would drop any deer that walks in Pennsylvania, New York, Colorado, Virginia, Indiana, and a host of other states. But Jim, you live in Missouri, a state whose deer are tougher than a typical Cape Buffalo, so I'm not sure.... ;D ;D Ernie Bishop, xphunter, is the guy to talk to, but he hasn't been on much lately. Maybe you could e-mail him. He can tell you more than you'll ever need to know on the subject. A 7mm-08 handcannon is right up his alley....

Red I have to disagree with you. The 7MM Mauser proved itself to be a very effective deer cartridge in the late 1800's and early 1900's and it's ballistics were around those you quote for the reduced reoil loads. Even the 06 so many are proud of was no speed demon when it came out. I agree that the handcannon is a handloaders dream. The biggest drawback I can see in a Handcannon, is the nightblindness caused by muzzleflash in dim light. But would never feel undergunned with a striker in 7-08. And one in .243 will drop any deer Missouri can produce.

The biggest drawback I can see in a Handcannon, is the nightblindness caused by muzzleflash in dim light.. Thats why I call my 35 rem a fire breather. Don't let red get you all hyped up on vel loss as I can push 140 grain hornady a-max at 2400 out of 14 inch in a 7-30 waters with my buddies hand loads. I think the 308 case will push them plenty fast. All the 7-30 water is the 30-30 case necked to 7 mm. the 140 grain load seems to drop 5.5 inches at 225 yards. that as far as my cousins range goes. you should be able to let the off at 2500 easy maybe 2700. and you can got from 100 to 180 grains. my contender in 7-30 will pop milk jugs at 175 all day. the 35 rem has problems after 150.
