I live in a small town. There is no policeman here. The town has one full time employee, sort of a handi-man that keeps the water flowing and the streets in good shape. We have almost no laws in town. The dogs run free and no one except a bitter old lady that like cats has a problem with that. Until recently.... A family moved in and they have pit bulls. They saw that the dogs run free so the let their pit bulls run free. the first night those dogs killed a neighbors hunting dog and there was rumors of other animals (cats being killed that night). The town is in an uproar. Shoot, shovel, silence is often heard about town and a new picture will be posted in the town bar, I have heard.

Shoot Shovel and silence? Are you talking about the dogs or the irresponsible people that own them?

It's really not the dogs fault.. killing is in their breeding... I'd be aiming at the people that own them... if that don't work.. THEN use "shoot, shovel and silence"... I would use a BIG gun though... them pit's don't go down too fast when you're only shooting a 22... I'd then swear they were going to attack me... and I HAD to shoot them...

Well I agree partly. But I don't like mean animals! But I know there are people that like dobermans, rottwiellers and pitbulls but I will not and do not care to understand why.
I like to hike a lot in the hills in the summer time. I have had rottwiellers and dobermanns attack me and get called of at the last moment by their owners. They think it is funny. I think, why don't I have a carry permit. (that has happened only a few times) Letting pitbulls run loose in a town where little kids are out playing.. well you can probably guess what I think by now.

If you could wipe out all the pitbulls, the world...well...trailer park...would be a better place. IMO

Except Pit Bulls are tough.
Every Pit Bull I have ever been around has been sweet as hell. Even the neighbors 130 lb one. He liked to play rough, but was a real sweetie, and LOVED kids. If you were playing and whimpered, he'd immediately roll onto his back in apology.
I don't like condemning any entire breed.

This Breed is differant jabba, all you said is true!! It is allso true that your neighbors 130# one will kill or badly main someone one day!! Maybe yes, maybe no. But it is never worth the risk. Much the same as having a tiger or cheeta as a house cat. One can love one of the other 160+ breeds with out that kind of danger.

The danger is ALWAYS there. always. The reason, IMO pit bulls are more prone to attacking people, is morons are more prone to having them. Therefore, they don't get socialized properly, they are more likely to get mistreated, and more likely to be encouraged to be mean toward people.
I have been attacked seriously 4 different times by dogs... Twice by labs, once by a collie, and once by a chow. 3 of those times I showed blood, but I won all 4 encounters.
I am no more willing to condemn a breed of dog than I am a race of humans. I am not a racist.

Jabba[/quote) I Agree Jabba it's wrong to fault an animal that has been bred for hundreds of years for doing exactly what it does..................... However stupid people have been breeding pit's with unacceptable social habits and propogating the bad characteristics to the point it is very difficult if not impossible to find a pit that has good social character. Much as I hate to admit it I would be very aprehensive of having one anywhere around my grandchildren, and if the owner or law would not control it, I would..

As far as dogs go, I am a racist! That goes for other animals also.
I would rather be in a pen with an Angus Bull than an Holstein Bull. I would rather put my 12-year-old on a mare than a stallion. There are breeds of dogs that I would much rather see in a yard that I had to enter then pit bulls, Rottwiellers or Dobermans for instance vs. beagles, collies and spaniels.
Animals tend to have traits according to their breeding. Dairy bulls are meaner than Angus or Herefords, but they were not bred to be so, it just is. With dogs, breeds are often bred for purposes. A spaniel on the average is not as dangerous as a rottwieller.
