Bounce,, these ARE NOT black powder loads but I think they will work in all your older shotguns. As always ask Two Moons before using them. You can order them on-line and don't need to go though a gun dealer. The only catch is you have to order 4 boxes @ a time. If you don't want four boxes I would take two off your hands..... www.polywad.com/vintager.htmlBTW This is a good site for any of you guys w/ older original shotguns. They make many different length and gauges of LOW PRESSURE shot shells. Although the largest shot size is #6. But thats what I tend to use on turkeys now-a-days anyhow. And I have to give 2M's credit for finding this site and sharing it w/ me!!!

Two Moons just droped off my Remington SXS Boy he did a fine job on that action and sodering the rib on the end of the barrel looks almost as good as yours DD. Jim said I would not learn a thing mesuring the end of the barrels on it but did anyway and right was .73 & left was .72 I expect I will use it the most this spring. Thankyou Two Moons a very fine peice of work once again and I was getting worried that only DD was able to get a gun worked on anymore LOL. I don't know if T/M's sent pictures?

First off I really DID send Red the pictures. Today a friend came by and picked up a couple of guns I was working on for him. He knew I was looking for a Husqvarna sxs in 16 Gauge and had found one cheap at a place he visits. We ended up trading for the work I had done and now i have the 16 and a dilemma. I wanted a 16 for conversion to a 45-70 double gun or a cape gun as the action is the same as the 20 ga and is smaller and lighter than the 12. Well this one doesn't have a bad bore and is choked IC and MOD in 16 Ga. It weighs in at about 6 1/2 pounds and has sling straps and would make a dandy useing shotgun. BUT I also have a 50 caliber 1 -24 twist barrel and this would make a dandy cape gun in 50-70. With the barell lined out the gun weight would come up to about 7 1/2 pounds. Oh my ducats, Oh my Daughter! What to do now?

2M:
If it were me it would be a no-brainer. I would keep the gun as is. I can't imagine but what even you would get more use out of the gun as a 16 ga. shotgun than as a .50-70 elelphant gun. However, whatever floats your boat.

Ah, but Dovehunter, a Cape GUN 16x 50... Now there is a classic African hunting gun and just the thing for boggy creek botttoms and TOUGH deer. Now if I were really smart I would find a spare set of barrels and make a cased set ! Noow there's a thought! Oh my Daughter...

Elephants and Rhino's are not too common in Iowa or Nebraska. But I certainly understand wanting a Double Cape Gun!
Reckon those Nebraska Deer are nearly as tough as the Proverbial Southern Iowa/North Missouri Deer, and taking them with a 16X50 would be at least as good as a 7MM Mag. ;D
And How could anyone argue with a 16 Ga / 16X50 cased set??
So Either way you decide go WE NEED PICTURES!! ;D

Two sets of barrels- now that would be really nice! Seems to me that keeping the 16 gauge shotgun set up makes sense- useful. A set of 50-70 barrels could be fun, too!

I would keep it as it is. If the barrels are nice or will polish out I have a feeling you would get a heck of a lot more use from that then you would a 50-70. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Here is a picture of Bounce's shotgun, that Red forwarded to me. I didn't get one of DD's, maybe Red will post that one.

Maybe should remind everyone that it's an model 1873-76 "Hammer Lifter" Remington 12ga with 28" barrels And yes I will use it on the Turkey hunt For the 1st Turkey at least.

The interesting thing here is the action opens by lifting UP on the lever. This draws back the top locking bolt and releases the bottom locking bolt. The barrels have a very LONG choke section that is almost 4" long and tapers most of that distance and then has a short straight section. I will be interested in seeing how it patterns. Red does have pictures of DD's gun and I will be sending some of the underlever's I have.

I went out after work yesterday.... One of the advantages of "living w/ the Turkeys" ... I called a couple in w/ 6"-8" beards, but it's early and I only get three Nebraska permits so I didn't take one.....
