The muntjac species in Indonesia are all considered Indian Muntjac which belong to the following: Muntiacus muntjak
15 recorded subspecies of Indian Muntjac are listed and there are supposidly more than one subspecies in Indonesia with the primary being: Muntiacus muntjak annamensis
None are listed as threatened or endangered. Hope that helps you.

:)Thanks Gila. Did already some looking, but didn't found their name. Was shocked when i found the word "muntjac" in CITES appandix I (but nothing about sub species in CITES) Overhere in Europe there numbers are growing, but its an smaller specie as over in Indonesia, never seen them overhere in Holland, but there some road kills reported overhere, and overhere they are considered as "exotic"animal, wich you can shoot directly without any tags or what so ever. No i have to found out what kind of things i have to do to bring them back Holland. (some kind of cleaning report from a vet or other document) Have to wait till tomorrow, when agricultere department is open tomorrow

Well...I am not sure what is the 100% correct latin name for this tiny deers? What I know is just "muntiacus muntjac", lol. As I said earlier too, I am not sure if you can bring the trophy/cape out of here. But if you would like to bring the skull/horn only, I will help & arrange it for you... I am not a law breaker and I don't want to risk myself on this matter, for sure. However, I've been thinking to make some "wood plates" as like the "skull photo" you sent before, so you probably can bring it as "a handicraft", or so. How about on your part in the Netherlands, btw? Is it just okay for you to bring the skull? Theoritically, we (the members of "Perbakin" - Persatuan Menembak Seluruh Indonesia) ONLY allowed to hunt boar/pig. But in reality, there are so many hunters (inlcuding the police/army officers etc) that hunt this deer regularly. So it is just common overhere to hunt this deers. I think it is a matter of "grey?" regulation....in "theory" you are not allowed to hunt this deer, but in reality it is common to hunt. Understand with what I mean? .......... Is it still possible for you to depart from Bali/Denpasar when leaving for the Netherlands?...everything is more easier there.

Well seb, i am not in the mounting thing and was only interested in the skulls and horns . I am trying to find out what i need to let them in the country overhere, but from trips before i now you need an certificate from a vet, that the skulls/horn are clean and deinfected, so no problems for me. And if its really a problem i will let them ship over as a package I am sorry but my ticket has been printed and couldn't be change, but no worries ;D, i will land in Surabaya. Overhere i do all the boiling and bleeching from the skulls myself, will take with me a handy device/saw, to make it easy to putt a skull on a wooden plate

Theun, I have checked several options on the hunting fields for you. I have a new location, about 2 hours drive from my house, and it has muntjac deeer also. (This area also has a type of deer that is the biggest in Indonesia in size & horns). I will accompany you to shoot in this area instead the other locations I have told you before. I only hope/wish that the hunting permit will be just okay in September, the time you are here. It is now still a 'little problem' here. The police dept is now/recently very careful to issue the hunting permit ("surat ijin berburu", in Indonesian) ---- A little story: because a hunter is shot by himself very recently in East Java.... A BIG, BIG mistake happened on him! He put a live round in his chamber while he was hunting at night by spotlighting with jeep (dumb thing)....he operated the spotlight himselves, found a pig, made sign to the driver to stop, gave the light to his guide, reaching his gun behind him, but incidentally the driver braked the jeep too hard so he was pushed forward hardly, & the rifle 'bang' & hit his shoulder & head!..... Very sad story. That's a very rare tragedy, never happened before overhere to my memory, however that's an example of un-expected experience/moment!!....& it affects most of us shooters/hunters overhere....the hunting permit is recently hard to get/to be issued by the police dept. For your information....in Indonesia, you should store your rifles in the police dept & you can only get your rifles for about 2 weeks per month. I do have a special permit, which I can store my rifles (2 rifles maximum at a time) & use them for practice purpose ("surat ijin latihan" in indonesian). With this special permit, I always have two rifles (or at least one rifle), anytime in hand, every month. However, you cannot use the rifle for hunting, using this permit.
Anyway, everything should/would be just okay in September, or before that. Do not so worry though. I will try my best to arrange the hunting permit.
See you soon, seb.

I do not worrying you anymore, Theun. I just told you the latest news in my area. I have checked that I would be able to get two rifles with me in September. The one is the Remington .223, and the other one is my "bench gun". The last one was built not intented for hunting purpose, but that's the other rifle I can get with me in Sept due to the "pass book" & permit. Sorry, I can't get my Brno. I will show you how the second/back up rifle looks like..... It's a custom made action, trigger & stock. I built it several years ago. It's a single shot, btw. Weight at about 5,5 kgs with the scope. The Remington .223 though, I think you ever looked at it before?....seb.

Okay, here is the close up of the action... another view It is getting rusting now. (the receiver & bolt are made from 4340 chrome moly alloy & it can rust easily) But don't worry, it's safe & shoots about or under 2" - 5 shots at 300meters. A proven winner rifle, overhere.

Lol. We will first zeroing/practicing with the rifles in a shooting range in Surabaya (100m), or Lawang (up to 500m). We will then go straight to Ploso in Jombang city. (it's about 2 hours drive) and hunt there for a night. We will then go to Pacet or Trawas, in Mojokerto city. I think for a night or two. The scenery & weather is nice here.
We will probably go to mount Bromo in Pasuruan after this. Then straight to mount Ijen in Situbondo.
I am not sure/don't know if you can check these locations in internet? The first two locations, you'd usually shoot short range. The next ones are usually for long range shooting.
We can arrange hunting "rusa payau" in Jambi (Sumatra island) if you want. Guarantee to shoot big deers and lots of big hogs there. Or to Sumbawa island....It's up to you. But for your information, most likely I can only accompany you for the first 5 days or so, then for several days later within your 2 weeks visit. I have arranged my time for that, but I cannot predict my time exactly also. So it depends on the September.
That's for the hunting. I will accompany you to the pasar malam, pasar rombeng, kaki lima etc if you like.
