Theun, btw what is badger?...never seen this animal before nor read it in a book or so, but it seems that the body is wide & thin...??
Also, it seems that you have a lot of deers in Germany...what kind of deer are they in the pic?
..........
Okay....I will try to show you about my hunting jeep, you seem curious to know what I meant with the "steel platform" on top of the jeep...
I find these pics & "repro"ed them.
You must "climb" from the back of the jeep, & then sit on top of the jeep while spotlighting. I will prepare a more comfort & cushioned seat for you....dont worry. ;D
This is another view. Mine is the left side.
It's a Toyota Hardtop. Not so good to be honest! but this ugly jeep ever brought me to Kalimantan & Sumbawa islands. Don't ask me to have or bring a Hummer!! ;D
The games will be placed on the "front bar", as shown in the photo.
The spotlighter (usually two) will be at the front, one hand must hold the "horizontal/railing bar" & the other hand will be operating the spotlight. You would seat at the back, and you can smoke a cigar, lol.....Hey, I am a smoker, btw...do you so? (just for my reference)
When the spotlighter finds a game (you would also find/see the game if you always follow the spotlights), they will instantly make a sign to the driver to stop (usually by "splattering" the spotlight to the "machine cap" at the front). If the vegetation is thick, we would need to have a good angle to see the game. Sometimes the jeep should move back & forth etc, and this is why we need a good "all terrain" driver! You as the shooter, would need to get ready during "this time". You don't have to chamber a round until you can see the game! Usually you would need to stand up & make an off hand shot....that's why we have to keep the whole jeep to not move/shake etc during the time (no un-needed movements). For a short distance, you have to make a quick shot, but for long range shot, you can have more time. You may need to find the best position for you to make a good shot.
We will know if your shot hit the game or not, so if we're sure that you hit the game, my guide(s) will take it. We will wait on the jeep.
I have sold my rangefinder two years ago, so if you have one I suggest you to bring it. It would be helpful!!
And this is the rifle (Rem700, in .223) you will use...
The scope is 3-12x (Swarosvki), but I can change it to a Leupold 6.5x20 if you want. (By spotlighting, the Leupold is still good/clear enough, while it gives you a bigger power for more detail/finer shot).
The "back-up" rifle will be this.
It's a .308. Note the scope & the mounts...you should know.
....Or maybe this. (depend)
It's my ugly "bench gun", lol. (also a .308).
I can make a new stock for it.
Or maybe a Brno (Zbrojovka)...also in .308.
I can't find a pic of this one at this time.
If we find a big boar, btw, you would need to use the "back-up rifle".
I also have an over & under and some others actually (.22lr, 22hornet) but the .223 is the best stuff for the tiny deers.
Those rifles shoot sub moa, fyi.
The most accurate one is the "bench gun", especially for longer range.
We will set the trigger pull weight to your own liking.
I prefer a light pull weight trigger, but maybe we need to set it a bit more heavier...
If you would like to get a little practice & make sure about "the zero", we can go to a shooting range at "Lawang". It's about 1 1/2 hours drive from my home. The longest distance of this range is 600meters, so it should be enough to test the rifles.
............
Let me know if there are other things you need to know...seb.
Oh the boars above weren't shot in East Java but in Kalimantan (Borneo). In Java, you are (very) lucky if you find, say a 80 kgs hog!!
