Don't get your hopes up too high. They had black lab pups that were registered on the board at work for $100 and I almost called you and said forget it but the wife wants another bucky. Read that as yellow dog. I figure if this dog can learn to hunt at all I will be ahead of the game. Bucky didn't like to hunt as I kept taking the birds away from him. ;D

Bill if you EVER buy a $100 labrador from an unreputable breeder I will put my foot in your A$$. You will almost certainly end up with tons of problems! Health and otherwise. You need a dog that has some natural ability if you expect to have a good bird dog. I can teach him anything else but if he don't wanna hunt there aint nothin you can do with him.
DD, The breeder I bought Kate from typically has puppies that start at $1000.00. I don't by any means think this is exhorbatent when one considers that the initial cost of a pup is the least amount you will spend over the dogs life. Hell, Training alone can put a man in the poor house! But when that dog makes a 200 yard retrieve on a bird it never saw fall You wouldn't sell him for anything!! Never could understand why someone would spend several thousand dollars for a shotgun but then buy the first $100 dog he finds with no thought given to breeding or tractability! Course I expect that if you were able to get you a nice gun or two for one of them pups you might be able to part with one. Should be a nice gun though! After all you are not only providing a retriever to keep Bills grouchy old wrinkled #$& dry in duck season but a companion that will be there in his old age!

I never really gotten into alot of bird huntin' around here. I did do some duck huntin' , & came across a few phesant, quail & such, while chasing rabbits, so I never had a need for a dog that would brake me. Heck, I can't even shoot a bird 200 yards out, much less the dog being able to see it. that is some trainin' there. I've hurd tell of some folks that do alot of upland birdin' that there dogs can do that. Fact of the matter, this one ol' boy goes on down to South Carolina & to get his dogs & pays around $6,000.00 - $10,000.00 PER DOG, & doesn't think nothing of it. . My huntin' days would be over if I was to spend that kinda money on a dog, & my wife was to find out about it.

LOL! Yup I agree stumpy! The only thing that saves my butt is that I train my own dogs. If'n Mamma ever stopped to count all the money I've racked up over the years in hunt tests and field trials vet bills, dog food, training supplys and gasoline she'd nail my hide to the woodshed.

I am about to put a deposit on another GSP pup that's gonna cost $800. When the breeder offered me the litter mate of the one that died in his care 4 years ago... I declined and instead took one from the next letter from that bitch. That's my Cooper. Well, he just sold the dog he offered me for $7000, plus 2 stud fees as part of the contract! I am going to take a dog from a sire that is an awesome looking dog. www.hunt101.com/img/391561.jpgOne litter will be ready in another 2 weeks. The next is due 4-20-06. The thought of another LITTLE one around the house is exciting and scary daunting at the same time. Jabba
