Hell yes I cashed the check, I had to PAY for the PARTS! As to close I will have it shooting by this weekend. Browning and final finish will be after deer season. Ive been too busy to work on yours because Bounce has a more interesting project and I am all set up to breech a real rifle.

I HATE this! Reverse inletting! As I am finishing up DD's gun I keep beign remined how difficult it is to work backwards. Normaly you cut into the wood to fit the parts but in restoration you file away the metal to make it fit in an existing inlet. I spent 2 1/2 hours last night filing the tang of the rifle to make it fit the original inlet. You can't just mill the parts because you have to fit into a worn stock and MUST NOT chip out any of the existing wood. Then you have to locate holes to match the oridginals exactly, this was another hour. It will be a pleasure to just install the sights tonight and solder on the thimbles.

why can't you open the wood up a tad to receive the metal? i'm sure it is a major no-no but i don't understand why?

twomoons, why not just heat that barrel up real good- heat blue it. Drop it in the stock then, I bet it'll be a perfect fit in a few seconds.

The Original barrel has to be able to go back in also, that means that all the new parts must exactly duplicate the old ones. You don't just buy parts to fit stuff hand made in 1850. As to burning parts in I know of a fellow who inletted a Mauser action by doing that! I sure wouldn't want to touch one off in that action it would have been dead soft.

I've been banged up since Sunday and it stormed Sat. so today I got a chance to shoot the re barreled .45..... Well the first thing I noticed was NO RECOIL!!!! This was using 70 grains of FFFg. This gun is a sweet shooter. BTW Bounce I got the .015 patches to work. I will need to work up a ultimate load but this one shoots well for now.
