Oh how I didn't think this one through very well at all in regards to timing and finances. About a year and half ago I promised my middle son that if he got his Eagle Scout rank I would take him out and let him pick out whatever shotgun he wanted. well it looks like he might just wrap it up by fall. Did I mention I'll have one kid in college this fall, the middle one in Catholic high school and the youngest still in Catholic grade school. I sure hope my son doesn't decide he wants a nice SxS. This could get real ugly for me, but it's one of those times I'll be thrilled to live up to my end of the deal. Stay tuned folks, same bat time, same bat channel, I wonder if I'll end up selling off one of my other toys for this.

High school and a new shotgun. Nice he will be happy happ happy.
870 Wingmaster. Hands down. Older model also. Find one steer him to make the right choice.
Worked for me. No eagle scout but for my 15 birthday and christmas present My dad got me my 870. Still the one I use most and even with other shotguns avalable to use what come out with me at least 90% of the time.
Once in a while my father in laws 870 mag gets the call. Right now setup for 3 inch #4 buck, and if I go for goose not ducks I will go with the 870 mag also. From tree rats/dove to deer I Have used it for everything.
Show him a classic 1980's rem 870 or 1100. In the day mine cost 175 with the 1100 being 195 plus tax. Has that dark walnut they used in the 1980 also. Nice and dark,
After all it is a fathers job to steer his kids in the correct direction. Dad just went out and bought it and gave it to me on opening day deer season 1980 and said good luck here's a box of slugs Stay close to the creek by the fenceline. Longest shot there would have been 40 yards.

A 870 is not out of the question at all. If I had my way, a like new early 90's model would be great. There are a few other models I will ponder as well. I have some time and will be using it to my advantage when possible.

I hear you, I've been wanting to get another toy (specifically a nice shotgun since I have close to $300 in points and cards at Cabelas). However after buying the jersey Al Macinnis wore in he won the 2003 slap shot contest, that has left me with zero spending money. Can't even put it in a nice frame yet A used Wingmaster is a great value. As is the 1100, but they are pretty heafty

Nice gun. Is it new enough to have choke tubes? and steel shot capable?

No it's fixed chokes, full and mod I believe. It was made in the 60s and looks to be basically new unused.
