I don't know how many of you have had a chance to play with the any of the new Tactical .22's that have hit the market yet but I keep wondering WHY? What happened to my sleek well balanced 541T's or 541S's. All I get now is a .22 copy of the MP5's, M16's and some of the other military rifle copys. AND THEY SUCK. You grab a hold of them and your hand immediately wants to let go. The front rails are rough and dig in and the adjustable stocks do not fit no matter where you position it at. They are only good for shooting fast at 25 yds and past that forget it. A 541 they are not. A 10/22 Ruger will kick their butt. They will only function well if you load the hottest of the .22 LR loadings out there and that is mostly CCI Mini mags etc. If your shooting pop cans at 50 yds you shoot once with the 541 and they shoot up a whole mag with the Craptical Tactical. And if you see one of the Rem 597's in the Tactical clothing you start to gag. Not that I ever liked it but its ugly and not near as functional at the original. Same with the Ruger Craptical. Those shoot a bit better than some of the other crap but I will take a box stock 10/22 over the craptical.

Bill you're missing the best part. with this onslaught of tactical rifles these days no one wants those old classics anymore. so all these 20 something age kids are starting selling off their classics that had been in the family that normally would never be for sale. maybe it's just the hard times but I've seen more nice classics for sale lately than I can ever remember. now I just need to get some cash set aside for the right deal when it comes along.

I won't be shooting anything labeled 'tactical'. . or buying anything with that description. I have wondered about those rails they put on them these days. . I figured they'd be uncomfortable to grip. I like your thinking, JimH. Maybe I need another 10/22.

I've been asking for years now what is the fascination with these AR/AK style guns, be they rimfire or centerfire. And Bill, you're right about shooting the things at 25-yds. These Rambo wanna-be types put 20 power scopes and bipods on them and then shoot them at 25-yds in the not surprising spray-and-pray fashion. I could almost (but not quite) buy into the "assault rifle" ban.

Well in the 1950's I use to hear the same thing about mil-surps from Gramps. Nobody wants a good lever gun anymore. Fact is that the young guys coming back from WWII wanted bolts and even better semi auto guns. now guys that learned on an AR platform want that for their 22's also. As to spray and pray that's called fire suppression and I have even heard of it advocated for law enforcment. I had in a Smith MP15-22 the other day and it went out the same day and I won't miss it but the guy that bought it got 2 extra 25 round mags, for squirrel hunting maybe?

Fact is that the young guys coming back from WWII wanted bolts and even better semi auto guns. now guys that learned on an AR platform want that for their 22's also. I think that was true for the WWII generation, but that's not true now in my opinion. Only 2-3% of the population is in the military and this craze has really taken off in the last 5-10 years. I think Hollywood has a lot more to do with the tactical movement than anything. People simply want to play their little game of makebelieve with real live weapons and boast online about how they dare someone to break into their house. The NRA has also seized the opportunity (and money) and has brainwashed people into believing the boogerman is behind every corner. Frankly, it doesn't impress me. I've said it before - if this is what this hobby has become, my kids won't be introduced to it. If it wasn't so serouis, it would be silly.

Hey Red, when did you start a family. ;D I have never felt that way Red. Nor have most of my friends. Wondering what makes you feel that way. This would not be a political statement would it? ?? ;D That S&W M&P 15-22 is the gun that got me started down this rant twomoons. I sold one the day before and when I went to grab it to take it out to the NICS counter for the background check I thought I had grabbed a cactus. The guys that bought it were in their 40's and old enough to appreciate a nice gun. Then they picked that one instead. This summer I went to a Mouse gun match which is shot totally with .22 ammo. I shot revolver against most of the other competitors who were shooting automatics. I had bought a set of speed loaders for my mod 18 S&W and actually did quite well with it. Ran in the middle of the pack and it was a speed race designed mostly for auto's but I finished in the upper end of the group. We also used .22 Rifles. Everyone shot either one of these Tactical rifles or a souped up 10/22 Ruger. I shot my 572 Rem pump and was only beat out by one guy and he was shooting a 10/22 Ruger all souped up. Even has a suppressor on it. He beat me by a whole second but the next guy behind me I beat by a whole second. There were three kids shooting these Tactical Craptical rifles and they were not all that good due to missing their targets. Got off more shots than anyone else though. ;D

I've moved on to a webcam girl with 5 kids. Which was quite surprising since I didn't know either of those things. What can I say, I know how to pick them; instinct ;D I have never felt that way Red. Nor have most of my friends. Wondering what makes you feel that way. This would not be a political statement would it? ?? ;D Politics aside, the NRA has a way of exaggerating things that will never come true in the first place (followed by a request for money) and then taking credit for it not happening. It's a bigger scam than televangelists. They use the same principle of feeding on fear and paranoia. That being said, I think the anti-gun lobby does the same thing.

I think they both look for any way they can find to either make money or to get an edge. If I have to chose a side though. ;D

It's a generation thing! How many of us, ran around with our Cap Guns trying to be Roy Rogers, Randolph Scott, Gene Autry, Audie Murphy, Gary Cooper , Fess Parker(Yes I had a Coonskin Cap)etc( I did, did'nt you? ) and when we got old enough to buy guns that influenced us. This buying generation has been influenced by Rambo, Hamburger Hill, Navy Seals etc and are emulating their hero's.
Who's really wrong here?
As long as the makers make what I want, they can build what the next generation wants. It's not my style, but OK by me.
