Dove season starts here tomorrow and I can hardly wait. I've been seeing a lot of birds. I hope Irene didn't run them all away. Any of you guys planning on going?

101 degrees here this afternoon. No dove hunting for me in that heat.

Since I live in one of the few states that doesn't have a dove season, nope, I'm not going.

The hot weather must have moved the doves out of the St. Louis area.
Oh well, the 6 squirrels I got this morning are multiple times the meat of a limit of dove ;D

Only seeing the local birds so far. No big flocks so they probably haven't started moving yet.

I got a grand total of 5 birds between the Saturday opener (2) and Labor Day (3). I don't understand as I had seen a ton of birds at this same place two weeks before the season opener. I guess our friend Irene must have driven them off. Several other hunters I spoke with said the same thing. Oh well, maybe it will get better as time goes on and the farmers start shelling their corn. It was still better than last year I guess. I think it was 2-3 weeks before I even shot a bird then.

I have not heard how it's going yet. But Iowa has had it's first dove season open this month. It's taken 30 yrs of hard lobbying to geta season. Every time they got it approved in the senate and congress, the bird lovers have gotten an injunction to stop it, till this year.

We're now into the 5th week of the season (at least around here) and I still have shot a grand total of only 5 birds. Last Saturday I split my time between a cut sunflower field and a cut corn field and I don't believe I even saw enough birds to make a limit of 15. I hope some of the rest of you are getting some shooting. I sure as heck ain't!
