Well I went and done it and I now have and have learned to use and passed inspection on Carlson screw in choke tubes. I am currently set up to do 12 gauge and if it goes OK I will add 20. By the time I learned to figure the decimals on the choke comps I thought I was back in school. I also got a complete set of bore mikes and wall thickness mikes and the tooling to do choke reaming and chamber work. I guess Bounce is going to be my first victim as I am going to put screw in chokes in his 20" 1887 lever gun. That should make it a dandy turkey gun.

Sounds good, Twomoons. There must be a lot of shotguns out there that can use screw in chokes.

Yes-sir, I figure that will make that 1887 everything it's not already and it is already my favorit cartige shot gun, just needs a little chokeing choice. It's my handy go to for anything gun when I don't wish to take time for geting anything else out & loaded. With choke choice it will be better than my 20" dubble thats a good quick grab gun as well.

Sounds good. Now you can put chokes in all those Cowboy action guns and get them shooting rather than just blowing shot all over the place.

Well today DD got a 1887 lever gun with screw in chokes. He now has a 20" barrel 12 ga with X full choke. For when he's too lazy to call them in. Have him bring it over and we'll take a look, depends on how much meat is in the barrel. Can at least make it better.

Bring it over tomorrow and we can get it bored and ready to go and then you can order as many chokes as you want.

Did Bounce's 1887 levergun the other day and took some pictures so you can see how it's done. The first one is borig the recess on the lathe with the barrel between centers. The second one shows the chanmber center made from aluminum and how it holds the barrel centered and pushes the barrel into the bit. The last photo is of the finished choke. Attachments:

twomoons so you're doing the recess and threading of the barrel for use with Tru Choke brand chokes? are you making the individual chokes that come with the gun as well? looks pretty labor intensive setting up to bore the recess and cut the threads.
