Well if I can keep them all alive it will be around 250 Hens & 50 rosters pheasants & 250 quail. decided to try for producing hens for next year, as I expect this years wild birds have good roster numbers and we now have a lot more land going into habitat this year, but it will take likely 3 years to be covered and doing well. We had a lot of quail last year but I do belive the snow storms last winter killed most of them so I want to try and raise all the quail I think I can in my pen? I think I am pushing the max on both birds for the room I have. If I can get a real good base breeding natural ? then I will likely raise a couple hundred rosters a year just to make out standing bird numbers for hunting. May even try to put out some Reeves Pheasants for suprize trophys but right now I'm still working on building up the population and have some decent hunting as well, I'm hopeing anyway!!

Might not want to keep the pheasants and quail together as the quail will kill the pheasants.

Not to worry as I do the batch of quail after I no longer can get pheasants anymore for the year. I think I could get quail year around or nearly so, but after Oct it's to cold for my operation. So far I have lost 5 birds so things are looking good this far as that is about one a day and very expected the 1st week.

I added two more feeders this evening as the three I was filling full once a day for the last three days were plum emty at feed & water check. Weather has not yet ben very hot and they drink 2 to 3 gallons of water a day sofar. Feed tonight was 10 - 16 oz cups to fill 5 feeders. so far have lost 9 birds in nearly 3 weeks. Two weeks to go for this batch.

Finaly had two birds excape the pen as I was feed & watering, fast little birds in the open but when they went in the high grass I was able to net them as they could not see me nor me them but I could see the grass moveing and just put the net over that spot and then they jumped right in the net. One more week and I can start to think about placeing some before I turn them all lose at once hear at 5 weeks, I think they would survive let loose now. But I also know they lose weight after being turned out so will give them more time for them to gain more weight as they may need it.

is now takeing a bag of feed in less than a week, theies birds are realy growing fast. Seems as I could let them go but I know after I let them go they lose weight for the next month or better before seeming to grow again so I will wait a few more days and try to get more weight on them for surviveing.

Yesterday the pheasants were 4 weeks old, pen is geting crowded and feed is going fast, so this morning I took 7 birds west of me to a friends farm, then 12 to were my mother lives and 17 to my brothers farm. DD was supoise to show up for some but haven't seen him. Will turn a batch lose on my north 80 yet and then when the feed is gone I wll let the rest near 100 go hear.

Yes this was my most sucsesfull batch ever so far, it would be hard to get better as I think I only lost 9 out of 150 + extras. Not shure of the numbers of extras but I'm shure it was at least 6. Friday morning will let all go. I should have very good cover by next spring when theise hens will be full adults & nesters, the cover is pretty good right now already. I am to get another 150 like this one a few days in to july. and after that we want to try 200 to 250 quail. I belive are winter blizzards last winter killed all my quail and must start over.
