Boy oh Boy Dunham's has a plethora ( DD a S#i! load) of 22's in stock and ON SALE at 18.00 a carton. This is the best price I have seen in a while so I bought a carton to bring my stock back up. I like to keep about 5000 rounds on hand in cast the shtf. I see that prices are coming down on all the ammo and that the dealer amounts are going back to the old 5 or 10 thousand round minimums.

Prices are coming down around here, too- and I hope they keep coming down. Supplies are getting better, too.

I wish the price of reloading components would come back to their "pre-scare" prices. They appear to be down a little but most of them went up by 100% or more so I guess it will take a while.

Not for you Red they are REMINGTON's! But I will say that you are right about current quality control as we have grown to expect at least one dud every 50 rounds or so. Back in the 70's this dud problem drove S and W out of the 22 market. But I can't say and of the bulk packed Federal's are any better. At least in MY gun I can shoot under an inch at 50 yards nd that is good enough for the girls I go with.
Of course at my age I can only shoot once a week...

Some federal bulk is better than others as far as duds. The cheap blue box seems to be the worst.
Aside from Wildcats, I've never (rarely) had a problem with Winchester. I'll pay the 25 dollars for Dynapoints as I think they are the best bulk 22 shells on the market. Of course I have about 2500 rounds left that I got for 10 dollars / 500...but rest asured I'll buy them again no matter what the cost.

I'll take the Remington "golden bullet" 22s any day over any Federal 22s. I've never had a "dud" problem with either but the last brick of Federals I had would spit powder back at you to the point where you had to wear safety glasses. As I recall case splits were a frequent occurrence too. No more Federal 22s for yours truly. All my 22s are sighted in with "golden bullets" and, like twomoons, all my rifles will group right at or (usually) under a inch at 50-yds anyway, so why switch.
For some reason I've never had any luck with either Federal shotshells (for reloading purposes) or 22s. On the other hand, I've never had any problem with their centerfire metallic stuff. Their brass seems to hold up just as well as Winchester and (at least for me) maybe a little better than Remington. I guess everyone sticks with what has given them the best service or lasts the longest.

I been getting the winchester 38 grain hyper stuff. It comes in bulk packs of walmart 550 bulks. Not as dirty: works even the old model 60 action well for a light bullet and group well. It does not come in as often as the federal. I did not get many dud rounds from remington golden's they are just real dirty in my handgun and model 60. If I am going to have say a week of scouting for deer and trail walking in tree rat season I always use the Mini mags. I can pop off a couple of rounds and not worry much about the dirt. It goes 15 or so per 550 pack also.
The one federal round my 9422m loves is the 50 grain hollow point 22 mag round.

I know that in the spring I shoot a lot more 22 rounds than in the late summer or fall. Over easter we always shoot lots of rounds after the kids have the egg search. Nothing like exploding eggs in bright colors.
