Well Nebraska's 2009 Muzzleloading season opened today!!! A cold front is coming though as I speak. I most likely won't get out until tomorrow afternoon. Haven't seen anything big since rifle season but w/ temp's in the 50's and 60's during the day I didn't figure to. The weatherman is talking highs of low 30's till next week so maybe movement will pick up. Bounce are you thinking of maybe hunting or are the knees hurting to much ? Let me know. Josh is coming up Sat. and we'll hit it hard than. Lil' Mama leaves tonight for Tennesee for a week to visit her sister so I have to help Alexa w/ homework which might cut into my hunting time too. Hopefully we'll put up more meat.

No DD I will take a pass this year and hope things are a lot better for me hunting next year. I was just down to my mom's and she said Rowena saw a big buck east of mom's last night comeing home. Likely the one I and jeff have seen.

Bounce I was out to Ronnie's last night and got my jerky. Did you have some jerky made ? I thought I saw a jerky bag w/ your last name on it.

Lil' Mama is in Tennessee, and Allie was in school sooooo I went MLing!!! I saw OVER 40 flat-tops and a couple of small bucks, nothing big. Main thing was I went hunting and on my Anniversary to boot. Temp's were in the lower 30's mid-afternoon but when the sun dropped so did thee temp's!!!! 16 above zero when I got home. Bounce When I stopped to shut the gate between the back 40 and the indian ground I had a little buck come bird-dogging right up to and past the truck as I stood beside it and the pickup was running. Nope it just didn't care that I or the pickup was there, it was hunting the doe that apparently is in heat. So I'm thinking second rut is coming on which should get the "big ones" moving too.

Well as luck would have it.......... @ sundown I was taking my patrol (4X4) vehicle in for the nightshift deputy to have during the blizzard. Low and behold what do I see by Bounce's blind but a HUGE 4X4 buck!!! Of course my MLer is in my pickup, not the cruiser. Than when I get to the hiway about 300 yds past Bounces blind, about 100 yds across it in a bean stubble field there stands a doe w/ ANOTHER 4X4's nose up her A$$ and a 3X3 standing by them!!!!! I'm thinking 2nd rut is close if not here!!!!!

Connected this morning!!!!! 4X5 with about a 18" spread..This time within a quarter mile of my house. I spotted this buck bedded down under a cedar tree in the open. There was no way to get close sooooooo I just started walking in that general direction, I acted like I didn't know he was there and never once looked at the buck. When I got within about a hundred yards I turned towards the tree and got ready. I couldn't see him and figured that he probably run while I was walking that way. At about twenty yards he exploded out of there snorting and blowing!!!! I "wingshot" him as he headed past me at about fifteen to twenty yards. When the smoke cleared there he laid. He plowed about thirty feet of snow.I spine shot him so I did have to reload and finish him off. I used my .62 caliber half stock rifle built of course by none other than Two Moons!!! So another 2M's rifle connected this years!! Thanks Jim!!!!! I emailed Scott a picture to post with this.

This post is not meant to start the old debate about traditional vs in-line but I was messing around looking at the Nebraska Wildlife web site the other night and found that you guys can't use an in-line with a scope on it larger than 1X ... why?
I mean did I miss something? Is there a provision like using an in-line with a scope during regular rifle season?

I mean did I miss something? Is there a provision like using an in-line with a scope during regular rifle season? That's no longer true Bubba. It's now legal to use ANY power scope during MLing season so 3X9 or 6X12 or whatever goes...........

I'm waiting to see if there is more than horns here. He was spiked in the rump wore down to a nubbin and looked like he was clawed neck to flank. I think DD just put him out of his misery, or he left a LOT of offspring this year. I sure did have a nice rack though and stalking to 20 yards was a real feat.

Congratulations DD, nice to know your .62 is enough gun at 20 yds, how long did it take for all the smoke to clear the body after shooting it?

is it a trick of the photo, or does that deer look like it's pretty young, and small bodied?
No judgements there at all. I am just trying to practice my deer judging skills.

Jabba This is what I was talking about that buck is worn skinnny. The body is big enough and i would guess there is still 170# or more there but fully filled out that buck would have been a whopper. Lokk at behind the ribs and the front shoulders how narrow they are, that buck has been party hearty for a couple of months.
