My habitat recovery program must be working........... This afternoon I looked across the road to the east from my house and thought "those are weird looking turkeys". Well that's cause they weren't turkeys, They were Candian Geese!!!!! Seven of them walking around in my oats field feeding. I don't remember ever seeing them feeding on my fields before, or on my creek for that matter. I'm on the flyway but they NEVER land here during the fall or spring. I'm curious to see if they stay around.

D-D, you may some day look back on that thought, and rue the day geese discovered your farm. Here in NY state, many geese don't migrate any more- they stay all year. And the local wheat farmers take a pounding, as do the malls, anyone with a pond, etc. Too many geese for the habitat.

In Indiana we have a hunt just for the birds that stay all year. The local prison farm does get hit every fall with hundreds of birds who must have figured out that the prison farm is a goose safe zone.
Now if I could just figure out a good way to cook that goose. I have never been a real fan of goose meat so I guess it is just the way i cook it.

We have a sandpit on the edge of town that is fed by an undrground river and has open water year round. There are about 300-400 Canadian Geese that stay there year round. Not a day goes by they don't fly over the house. There used to be a nice County lake about 15 miles away I used to take the kid fishing there all the time because it was a clean well mowed place for them to fish and play. Now there is so much goose crap, I never go there. They are a nusiance!!

I found out that the state of Nebraska has been stocking a Wild "giant" Canadian Goose sub-species on the Niobrara River and some have been nesting the last couple of years on the Bazile Creek (out my back door) to the north (down stream) of me. I guess they're expanding some more. That explains why the #$% things looked as big as hen turkey!!!

I like hunting those CANADA Geese with a knight muzzleloader. Oreferable with a synthetic stock, 209 primer ignition, scope and whatever else would make Bounce's and DD's skin crawl.
I know they are just screwing with me now... so I figured turn about is fair play.
I killed a canada goose once with a bow. I am the ONLY person I know of who has done that.
Anyone else?

And the local wheat farmers take a pounding, as do the malls, anyone with a pond, etc. Too many geese for the habitat. That may have been a very prophetic statement. Here in central Virginia the "resident" Canada geese have become so numerous that they are almost a nuisance. The area in which I live, a picture of suburbia, is literally overrun with them. The bad thing is that in heavily built up areas they have no natural predators. They are usually too big for domestic cats to handle and dogs are usually subject to leash laws so they just continue to proliferate. Everywhere there is the least little source of standing water (retention basins, small ponds, etc.) they are as thick as fleas on a dog with the 7-year itch. They almost seem to be able to sense that they are safe in built-up, heavily populated areas. In my particular subdivision you can't drive hardly a mile in any direction but what you don't see them either walking along side the road, crossing it, or foraging around any source of water. We have a very liberal hunting season on the "resident" birds but you can't hunt in subdivisions. So, as Jack said, we may all come to regret the day that wild, "migratory" Canadas deciding to take up permanent residence.

Sence a goose is a government bird, at least they think so, send the government a $15 bill per goose for their goose farts per year.

How does one cook them so they are not so greasy. I have tried the bag and smoking them but I must be missing something.
I would shoot more if I could cook them so one could eat them.
