Around here there is no swinging because you don't have time for it. Maybe the gun is on your shoulder, maybe it's on the crook of your elbow, maybe your face is on the stock looking down the barrel, maybe it's not. The object is to get a shot off --- any shot. You let the choke and the high brass loads do the work. It's pretty much point the gun in the general direction, fire, and hope you clip the rabbit. As I've said before in posts, many times you do not actually see the rabbit when you shoot; you shoot several feet in front of where you last saw the rabbit and get over there as fast as you can because you're likely going to have a 3 legged rabbit to chase down and stomp. As for the gun itselfIt's only 6.5 pounds --- which is actually very light compared to my synthetic 870. That thing is every bit 8 pounds I bet. The only disadvantage is 2 shots instead of 3. When you're getting a glimpse of rabbit here and a glimpse of rabbit there, you may very well need 3 shots to connect. I did shoulder the gun at the store (do note there is a standard stock and beavertail stock though). As far as the fit and comfort of the gun, it fit me real good. I don't know how it does swinging nor do I really care. If I have the time to wait on a shot, I'll aim the gun in the spot I think the rabbit will go. I'll pull the trigger a few feet before he crosses the bead and he'll run right into it.

Red I don't know about the stoeger as I never played with one, but clearly some of the guys hear only know how to follow through on a BS swing

Ok I will quit picking on mossburg's for a while.
I have seen the coach gun and they sell well around here as I see alot of them new in the gun stores. I think alot of them are cowboy/home defense. Still the rack of a pump almost spells self defense to me.

I'm such a sound sleeper the burgler can be in my bedroom, pump the gun, and I'll still be sound asleep !
Their are 2 criticisms of the stoeger doubles that I have read
1. frequent misfires
2. barrel regulation
As normal, you don't hear about the good guns. You only hear about the bad ones. So hard telling what the chances are of getting a bad one. With Benneli taking over stoeger several years ago, you can bet they are trying to improve the product if the guns were truely so-so at best.

Since the Stoeger is very popular in Cowboy action shooting, I would bet a Cowboy action site would be able to offer the solution to both of those objections.

One cowboy action shooter said his gun won't hit the target at 10 yards --- as in miss the entire thing ! I can't imagine missing a paper plate at 10 yards. I can understand once you get out to maybe 30 yards you might be 6 inches off or so that might be enough to miss (wound) your target.

I don't have that problem at 10 or 40 yds but again mine is not a Stoeger but a Rossi with a greener style action.

I would take a Mossberg Home Defender before I would the Stoeger in very tight cover situations and that's saying a lot as I really wouldn't shoot either one of them. There are too many good guns out there to hunt with. Matter of fact if the cover is that thick and the shooting that close I would take a Taurus Judge. ;D Might as well make it a bit more fun.

I would take a Mossberg Home Defender I'd rather have the Stoeger for syle points...and so I don't look like a "freedom fighter" ! Might as well add the pistol grip to save weight

Gee, why does almost every post on this board have to evolve into slamming Mossberg. I've never ever had any problem with any Mossberg I've ever owned (4 including the two I have now) since they first came on the Market. Why not let's slam Browning A-5s? I've had three of them and none were any good for anything except tomato stakes!

The best all round upland gun I ever had was a Ithaca 20 Ga. SxS in what they called the Churchill grade. This was a straight stocked 26" barrel choked improved and modified. With 3" shells it shot modified and full and I used it for everything from close in rabbit hunting to ducks over decoys. I wish i had never sold it as i killed more game with it than any other gun i have ever had with the possible exception of my Charles daley. The gun was so quick that on several occasions I shot the head off of a rabbit before he could make two jumps. I dropped pheasants out to 40 yards and ducks at a liittle more. Once I learned to control the barrels I never had a problem so I think the idea of long tubes to smooth the swing is mostly a lack of practice. My buddy at the time shot a Rossi 20" SxS for everything and he brought home a ton of game too. The big thing was we PRACTICED every week with out guns and learned to use them. I once knew a fellow who shot a sawed off High Standard and he did a lot of good work with that before he got to be a shotgun snob. Now I don't think he'd admit to ever owning a gun like that, would he, BILL!

Hey dovehunter if you get some more of the belgium made tomatos stakes let me know.
I did think that winchester o/u swang like a dream.
I do rag a little to much about the mossburgs, I will give them a rest for a while. I have the camper 410 pistol grip 500 myself. Other than the single slide arm making pumping at weird angle a bit tough, it goes to the woods at least once a year shoot tree rats. it was tossed around in the back of a tractor cab for years. it is still fun to use for summer leaf condition tree rats. easy to carry, good up close group and nice self defense gun with the 3 slug 41 cal loads.

That High Standard Pump with the chop sawed barrel was a great gun. Almost as fast as my Rem 870. Barrel got blown off about 4"s when it was stuck in a snow bank and fired after the guy crossed the fence with it. I bought it and took a chop saw to it. 21" barrel when it was done and one heck of a quail gun when there was still quail. It didn't do well with Pheasants further than 35 yds though. Dove Hunter, I said I would take a Mossberg Home Defender before I would take a Stoeger didn't I? ? Makes one heck of a rabbit gun. And it works like its supposed to. ;D ;D ;D ;D

J Marriot: I'm kidding some, I'm really not sensitive about people pinging on my Mossberg 500 Turkey Gun. The only thing I don't like about it is, my son will take off with it. Leave me with that Dang Star Wars looking Benelli Nomad of his. And if I want to use the Mossberg I have to ask him to bring it back. I understand some don't like Mossbergs, but am man enough to accept the fact that they are wrong ;D ;D
