ok folks here's my question. i need to get a new sleeping bag and was wondering if anyone made on that was advertised as waterproof. tents leak all the time especialy boy scout tents which is what i'll be using. we have gortex pants, socks, boots, jackets and maybe even TP. anyone make a gortex lined sleeping bag? oh and i'm not rushung, i leave fri night and they are forcasting rain all three days.

There is such a thing as a breatheable, waterproof bivy sack. It's a sleeping bag cover, really, with an opening at the head, usually they have provision for closing up the head opening if you're sleeping in the rain. It's not a sleeping bag- you put your sleeping bag inside it. I've seen Gore Tex covered mummy bags, but they were mountaineering bags for extreme cold weather- and priced extreme, too.

jack, that's what i'm looking for i think. that way i can use it for what ever sleeping bag i use. hey Bill does cabelas handle them? i'm headed out right now and i might just try to stop by a sports authority and see if they have anything like that. (doubt it) oh heck i may as well as head up to bass pro instead.

I'd buy a 20 dollar tarp and 10 yards of rope --- 'rig it up right above you and angle it outside Problem solved

Lol, Yeah, the old blue plastic tarp trick...should do it- and give you a dry place to cook, too. I think Cabela's has bivvy sacks in their catalog. A bivvy sack is something you'd find at a backpacking outfitter type store.

well bass pro didn't have anything like i want (go figure) but i did manage to spend a few dollars while i was there anyway. i'll wait and see how my middle son takes to boyscouts, and if he looks as if he's in it for the long haul i'll get him good equipment. in the mean time i can start doing my homework.

All you need to do is get two of those huge lawn and leaf bags. slip the sleeping bag bottom into one bag and then cut a hole in the bottom of the other one for his head and then slide that down over the top. Use duct tape to keep the two together. Kind of bad if he has to pee but he it keeps him dry unless he can't wait. ;D
