Those 750 two strokes were awsome to say the least. In its day they were the fastest thing on the road in a factory bike. Almost as fast or faster than the 900 4 stroke. The one I had was no were near stock and when it had the turbo on it was far faster than the 750. A real @&%#@ to hang onto when opened up. Boy talk about being an adrenilin junkie. ;D ;D My days of being a motocross wanabe were almost as bad though and the torque the 250's were putting out was amazing. They also could be a handful to hang onto when opened up. Then I wonder why my knee's are as bad as they are.

Man I was looking at some of the aftermarket parts you can get for an ATV. HOLY CRAP Everything from hop up kits, big bore kits, mud tires, and the list goes on and on....... Something I did find is the extensive number of companys that make clutch parts for the atv's that seem to allow the better use of their horsepower and even raise the top speed on the ATV from say a leasurly 50 mph to a screaming 75 mph. Not sure what the need is for all that but its pretty amazing whats happening.

Have you ever drove one of those things at that speed? IMO they are harry to handle at highway speeds as it is easy to over-respond/steer. That must be an awesome market to be in - 4 wheelers that is.

All those idiotic aftermarket parts, along with insane factory speed machines, are what ruins it for us guys who like to ride ATV's without destroying the landscape. ...... If you are careful, and excercise just a little care, you can ride about anywhere with very little impact to the environment.... But let a couple of those idiots that rip and tear on those wild ass speed machines invade your riding areas and, before you know it, posters go up..... ..... Justifiably so. Who can blame a landowner that has his terrain ripped up and has to listen to all that noise?.... Boy, I must be gettin' old... ... Just listen to me....

There is a 7 mile loop that I ride at our camp. There is a 300-400 yard section that does not have a trail, with a pretty steep hill climb too. I have ridden that loop dozens of times, and there is still no trail where I have ridden over that hill. You can't EVER see where I have been on my 4x4 Traxter.
That's what it's supposed to be like. In my opinion.

In the Black Hills, in the winter time, people come from far and near with their snow-machines. Personally they can be very irritating! Imagine walking back off the road a mile or two and watching elk in a meadow and some guy(s) tears through with his(their) snow machine(s) and sees the elk decides to see if the elk can outrun the machines. It happens - it really pisses me off! Out antelope hunting in the badlands I have seen hunters trying to run down antelope on 4 wheelers (the hunters were the ones on the 4 wheelers not the antelope). It pisses me off! I report them to the game warden and the game warden complains because they (the bad guys) always seem to know when the game warden is around. OK the question was, "Does anyone have an opinion?" That can be a dangerous question around me at times. Misused 4 wheelers and misused snow machines give a black eye to everyone who loves the outdoors. I wish the son of aguns (bastards) would all rot in jail!

I don't disagree with you one bit Dakota. Fastest I have been on a 4 wheeler was on the brother in laws Polaris 500 sportsman trying to keep up with him and the other brother in law. I think we might of been doing 35 and what a race it was. ;D The only reason I want the 650 4X4i is the fact that I can load it down with fishing/camping/fuel and the wife and I and head back up into the mountains for a weekend. Nothing for speed, just a 4 wheeler that can haul a load. ;D

I love the machines and they are fun. Doing what you are doing is what I would be doing if I had one. Being outdoors is great! The same could be said about a snow mobile and a 4 wheeler as what I have heard about Harley's. You don't ever see a Harley parked out in front os a Psychatrist's office.

You don't ever see a Harley parked out in front os a Psychatrist's office. I have never seen a Harley at a phychiatrists office. They are always at the mechanics shop. Hey... HD is the BEST!!! Ride a mile, walk the rest! Seriously... new HD's are a lot more reliable than they were. They still rattle like a can of marbles, and cost 2X what they should. And don't give me the buy American crap either. Have you ever seen HD merchandise? Taiwan, Indonesia, China, Korea, Mexico. My Honda Valkyrie was built in Marysville Ohio. Take the Japanese parts off a HD and see how far you get. Whew.... now that I have all THAT off me chest. I do not like people that misuse tools to aggrivate game. I will admit, that I have chased coyotes with mine though. And domestic dogs. Never deer though. Jabab

;D Ride a mile walk the rest is the exact seniment I have about my old Harley 45 side shift. Man what a POS and if I had it yet I would sell it as anymore their worth their weight in gold. Not to me as I have owned on before but these HD people got more money than they do sense sometimes. The reason HD's last so long is because if they don't run they can't wear out. ;D I better watch it as Bounce might be lurking somewhere around here and have a comment to make about my ancestory or something. I have seen Jap bikes and German bikes and Italian bikes hanging out in his garage so maybe there is something to that saying. I always got a kick out of some of the older HD's becaue you always seen them running with no tail light. They vibrated so bad they would break the bulb.

I don't mind HD people really, I just get REALLY annoyed when they look down their nose at me because I ride a Honda. Not all do. But a lot do. Then I laugh like a madman when I see stuff like, a HD edition Nissan Xterra. Or HD plates and stickers on a Volvo. and yes I have seen BOTH of those recently.

I personally never have owned a Harley. My favorite bike of all time was a 1977 Goldwing. When I was in Dickenson yesterday a guy had a Goldwing witnly 37,000 miles for $1,600. I had close to 100,000 on my Goldwing and don't recall having in the shop. Tires, oil and gas that was about it. I road it across SD many times and never had to stop for my back and arms and such. I see custom HD's often have a big enough tank to take the riders about 70 miles. About all they can handle anyhow due to vibrations.

Harley riders who think they are better than anyone else are like or maybe worse than the Corvette owners who come out to the hills a week every summer or the Sharps shooters that look down on high wall shooters and the rolling block shooters, or the Remington 700 shooters who look down on Model 70 shooters or vice versa.
I was talking with a girl in bar close to the college I was going too (a few years back). When she looked down her nose at me cause I rode something different than a Harley, I thought that saved a lot of time - good bye bit--.
I remember when I was in the service and I gave a kid some grieve cause he was shooting something less (IMO) than the Springfield 03 that I was carrying, I still regret that.

Glad to hear that Dakota. Thought I might have started a feud.
My Valk is a 1520, goldwing powerplant and drivetrain. Tweaked a little, with bigger carbs, hotter cams and go-fast timing. I added even go-faster ignition box. I know Valk guys with 200K plus on their valks with no major work. I know OF a guy with 300K plus on his. And the 1st year they made them was 1997. Wow. 300K plus in less than 10 years. This guy bought his new. Mine has about 23K on it and in the Valk club, I am not even considered broken in yet.
My Valk is almost 100 HP, will run a 12.0 1/4 mile while weighing 800+ lbs, and is still comfy enough to do 600-700 mile days. Combine that with dead on reliability and made in America at 1/2 or less the cost of a HD and it was a no brainer for me.
There are very few HD's out there that will take my valk, and they are all heavily modified. That said, I have a HD buddy that lives in Racine Wisconsin that has a 157 HP Dyna Low Rider that will eat me up. Now he can't hang with me in the twisties... or ride it cross country... but for a 50 mile a day bike... it's pretty dang fast. I rode it once and got a 3rd gear roll on wheelie starting at about 50 MPH. He runs low 11's high 10's on it with stock tires!
I loved the area when I came to Sturgis in 2004. I hated the rally. When I came back out it will NOT be during hell, er I mean bike week.
