ok in the intrest of getting some dialog going in these forums i'll update ya on my M77/22 project. not that anyone realy cares i'm just trying to get up to my member statis fast. i have the walnut stock and i should be getting the s.s. trigger guard assembly possibly today if not tomorrow. i shot it with the factory butt ugly sock on it a few weeks back and it did ok (1/4"- 5 shot group at 25 yds). this rifle is going to look so nice even red might have to look into buying a Ruger. my next order of buisness will be a diff. scope for my 7mm rem mag so i can take the 3200 elite 4x12x40 AO thats on it now and put it on the .22. i also finaly got the hawk scope i bought on the auction from scott placed on top of my '56 vintage 39a mounty and it looks like it belongs there. haven't shot it woth the scope on it yet, so i'll get back to you. heck i just realized i could have taken the 39a info and started another thread with that and gotten my post count up faster,................................dang when am i gonna learn

dang when am i gonna learn You'll learn about the time that I'll learn. And we're going to be here for a while... Why would anyone pay 400 for a rifle and then another 500 worth of parts to get it to shoot ALMOST as good as a $150 marlin

Why would anyone pay 400 for a rifle and then another 500 worth of parts to get it to shoot ALMOST as good as a $150 marlin first of all i paid 250.00 for a 400.00+ s.s. rifle, second i got another 100.00 into parts so i'm still ok. third, as soon as i get it together you meet me at the shooting range with your marlin and we see about the last part. this is what it will look similar to.

;D ;D got home yesterday and darn if my trigger guard assembly wasn't there waiting for me. after a few minuets my s.s. action now sits in a very nice looking walnut stock. i also got an extra sear out of the deal so i'm going to try my hand at polishing that one up to reduce trigger pull (it's at about 6-7lb right now)down to 3lb or less (prefer 2.5lb). if i screw up the sear i'll just by one of the aftermarkets allready dolled up.

Thats a good looking Rifle there JimH. Sweet. I would just about trade my project Ruger 10/22 for one like it as I like bolt actions better than I do a auto but I deal with what I have at hand. So far I have a Ruger 10/22 action, a Carbon fiber SS Barrel, Hogue overmolded stock. I'm looking at adding on an extended mag release, Volquartsen trigger kit and variouse sundry options. I'm going for a light gun to carry and still looking for a decent scope to put on the gun. I have enough of them hanging around but nothing light enough for what I want. When its finished I want a gun that weighs around 5-6 lbs fully dressed. But one that is a tack driver. When thats done I'm going squirrel hunting.

yea bill, but there are so much more fix'ns for the 10/22 than the 77/22. there are some but not to the extent as the 10/22. i'm trying to swing a deal right now with a guy trading a old .22 for a bushnel 3200 elite (still has the baush & lomb name) in 3x9x40. that will go on the 7mm rem mag and the 4x12x40 AO that's on the 7mm now will go onto the m77/22. it will adjust down to 10 yds so it is ideal. wish me luck on the horse trading.

well the guy doesn't want a rimfire, in fact the scope was on a BAR Mark II Safari he was trying to sell. he said he would sell the BAR with the scope for 750.00 or 600.00 just for the rifle. so i tried to buy just the scope but he said if the rifle sells without the scope he is going to keep it. i just might have to go with one of the new simons master series scope on the m77/22. they have started to hit the shelves but i haven't had a chance to peek through one yet. bill ya got any in yet at cabelas ??

Not that I know of JH. I will keep my eye out for them though. You can go to the special order section of the catalog and order a non catalog item from them though. Give that a try and see if it works. Its an 800 # so a call won't cost you a thing.

well i was off this past fri and took the new ruger out for a test spinn with the new stock on it. the point of impact rose by about 3-4 inches from when it was in the synthetic stock. most of that i'm sure due to the diff in bedding and screw torqe (sp?). but i did get some dandy groups with velositors out of it at 50yds. but the trigger has got to get tweeked as it must be in excess of 6-7 lbs. even then with the velositors i got a 5 shot group at 50 yds that was about 1/2". also it was drizzling so that may get better on a good day. i will get the trigger tweeked soon and get a glass bedding job done as well.

ok this morning i ordered from midway a Volquartsen Target Sear for the m77/22. this should take the 6 lb trigger down to around 2 lb. should have it next week and i'll let ya all know how much improvement it gives me. i shot the rifle last fri and got decent groups even with the heavy trigger and i was out in a light drizzle. so hopes for really good groups at 50 yds (i'm looking for 3/8" or less) might be a realistic possibility.

That sear ought to shrink the groups some Jim, not that they're terrible now.
Don't give up on your best groups until you try a wide variety of ammo. I have seen one gun become a tackdriver with ammo that doesn't shoot worth a hoot in another.
Another thing you may want to consider is a BugHole Tuner. I can't get their website to come up, might be down on the Gulf Coast somewhere. Basically it is just a little pressure devive tou put in the forearm to add, or take away, pressure on the barrel. Guys on some of the rimfire and benchrest forums swear by them.

SCOTT, i've seen them and thought about them. in fact i may have to buy one, my m77 mark II 7mm is getting bedded and free floated as we speak. if it turns out i screwed up floating the barrel i may put a tuner back in that one if they make one for centerfire.

Don't know if they work or not, but Limb Saver has an ugly black rubber thing that slides onto the barrel to keep vibration down and groups better.
