It was with many tears in my eyes I had to say goodbye to my Springer Spaniel Panda last Friday. She was able to worm her way inside my heart as close as a dog could get to being my daughter. We did everything together when I wasn't working. She was my buddy that many times taught me that it was very important to spend time with her. She would whine for me to sit in my chair so she could sit in my lap and be loved and petted. She would bring me her bumper when I was busy doing something. I learned quickly from her what was important. Our time would be brief so we needed to make the most of the time we had. She bird hunted, fished, swam, and played with much energy. Last fall she hunted grouse well for 12 days....every day at 11 years old. She would catch scent and it was like she was 2 for a little bit. I was in a funk for a number of days. I decided I needed to celebrate our time together rather than keep crying about her loss. Here is a picture of the fun times we had fishing. She got so excited when we caught fish. She turned just fishing into a special time. Attachments:

Her loss still weighs heavy on my heart. She was an awesome dog in so many areas. We got her and I trained her specifically for hunting grouse/woodcock she was so much more than just a hunting dog. She went almost everywhere with us and because of that she is missed by many, not just me. She watched over our grandson from when he was less than a month old whenever he was around. She went fishing with us and her antics at time made us laugh. She was so smart and at times what she did almost required logic and thought and was in no way instinct. She gave that month old grandson her favorite toy that was dug out of her toy box and gently placed next to him when he started fussing. Her boundless energy made her a joy to have in the field and her ability to run on a cold grouse track amazed me. She taught me that I needed to take the time with her when she wanted me to play with her or she would come to me and whine when she wanted me to go to my chair so she could sit on my lap. She would come and stare at me when it was time for us to go to bed. I just thank the Lord that he chose us to spend her life with. I will probably miss her until the day I die. While we have Gypsy and that does help, Gypsy is heavily bonded to Debby on a daily basis. She is my dog in the field and for training but Debby's the rest of the time. Panda was definitely my dog. I have already gotten on one reservation list and sent a deposit on a second pup that we would most likely see until March of 2015. I put all my hopes when we were looking for Gypsy in a single litter at a time. It took 4 years to get #2. I don't want it to take that long for this one.
