well i'm not done with my home project but i am close enough that i can now start to take care of other things too. since i got my m77 back from the smith (had a bedding job and a trigger tweak) it has sat in the safe. well last night i put the scope back on it and some how some way this weekend i'm gonna hit the range. i'm not even gonna worry about the .223 until i get this one sorted out. i figured after reading bill's post about his deer hunt i better not wait too long and have to rush only to overlook something. hey red, you open for some range time this sun?

Hmm...perhaps.
My brother and I are thinking about deer hunting Sunday if it's cool and if the wind works for our stands. We haven't seen much this year because of the weather but as he told me last night "all of a sudden you see like a million ******* deer in one day!!!" lol
I'll know more friday.

i did get out for a 1hr stay at the range. i took a chance that when i put the scope back on the rifle i would still at least be on paper at 50 yds. well i shot 2 shots at 50 (they overlapped one another but allmost made a 1 holer) and the group was about 2 1/2 inches or so low and centered for the most part (ok i did end up moving it 2 clicks to the left at the end). well i made some clicks and moved out to 100 yds. got decent groups at 100 yds but i didn't do anymore adjustments. the range was packed and you only get a hour so i'm headed back this weekend and i'll fire 2 shots out of the cold barrel and see if i need to tweek after that. i will say the 2.5lb trigger is a lot nicer.

yea red, any of the shooting ranges run by MDC limits your shooting time to 1 hr when the range is full and folks are waiting. if no one is waiting you can shoot as long as ya like. my buddy and i ran a couple boxes of 12 ga at the trap range (getting ready for donnie's place) and then i whent to the rifle range and shot 3 shots at 100 yds. i was about 2" low and grouped ok. i gave the rifle 9 clicks up and set it aside. waited about 10 min for it to cool down and ran 3 shots. first two where about 3/4" high and centered and about 1/2" apart. third shot pulled left of those about 3/4" and down a tad. i'm good to go as far as white tail.

went to the range again this past sun. shot 2 more out of the 7mm from a cold barrel and they where side by side centered about 3/4" above the bull at 100 yds. then i started shooting the .223, i had that action bedded as well last month and haven't shot it yet. i put the scope back on it yesterday morning and was curious to how well the quick release mounts would work. first shot out of it was at 100 yds and was dead center right where it was before i took it off. i proceeded to shoot several 3 shot and 5 shot groups with various .223 loads. some 45 gr winchester white box stuff, and two diff blackhills ammo in 55 gr and 68 gr. all had groups with holes touching. before the bedding it would group good but i would not get holes touching on any of the groups time after time. it really has helped alot in the consistancy, i am happy. after deer season i'll get it out to 200 yds and beyond and see how it performs then.

Congrats Jim!. Seems you've done it well. Btw, what mount/quick release you use?...Leupold? Weaver?
