Ok guys had a neighbor give me this small can of military issue bore cleaner. The can is olive green, and it has the word POSION in large bold print on the face and states not to use the can for food storage. I opened it up as I could tell there was a bit of the stuff left in it. It smelled god awful. Anyone know what they would have used and about how old it might be?

Looking through the net I found this photo that mirrors my can. From what I have found, this is nasty stuff and I don't plan on Keeping the container around. It is a first cousin to creosote and highly toxic.

Well you CAN clean a rifle with it if you work at it but I would rather just pee down the bore and hope for the best. I have a couple of the cans cleaned out for a military display with a Garand but that's about it.

Man I don't know what I would do with the little bit left over. Stuff stinks to high heaven and I don't feel right pouring it out after finding out how toxic it is. What did you use to clean out the cans if I may ask?
