The Llewllin is still a young pup that was going up against running pheasants !!!! She could have scored 5 if I wouldn't have missed one and Ron two plus the hens she pointed we couldn't shoot....... Again thats a pup working against RUNNING birds, which is a nightmare w/ an older dog. The GSH's well they are a team of older dogs 8 divided by 2 = 4. We hunted one morning vs both days for Jeff and the GSH's so 4 divided by 2 = 2 the same as the Llewellin pup

Yeah... but those GSP's have SHORT HAIR and docked tails.
I'll take the GSP JUST for that reason.
My GSP will circle around and work back toward me if the birds are runny... But he's 9. Been around a while.

Jabba; this pup ended up trying to do that on her own..... On my last rooster she circled and locked up 6 times before she finally corralled him. She's got potential !! It was/is awful dry here too. As for the hair I agree that can be a problem....... But damn she's pretty and a worker as well!!! BTW Any time you can hunt over a good dog no matter what it is.... is a great time!!!! JMHO

D-D, I grew up with English Sitters- pretty close to the same breed of dog. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of the breed. If I were to get one for for primarily hunting pheasants, I'd get a male. Typically, they'll range farther and be a bit more aggressive about pinning a pheasant down. If grouse or quail were the primary bird I was hunting, I'd get a female. Females tend to stay closer (an asset in heavy cover). That price doesn't seem out of line to me. You can certainly get cheaper dogs- and spend the next 10-12 years regretting it.

hunting over a dog is GREAT. I love dogs... in general. Cooper figured out the running birds on his own too. And that's tough here in Indiana where we mostly have put and take birds.
