Well I am at it again, a while back somebody gave me the action for an underhammer rifle with a hammer and trigger in the rough. I dug it out the other day and as business was slow i dug in the parts pile and came up with a 54 cal barrel and a broken stock from an old long rifle. I found a hunk of fore end from an old mowery rifle and got to work. I now have a functional underhammer buggy rifle with a screw breech for a quick take down. The whole rifle wil take down to 26" OAL and when put together is only 42" long and weighs in at 7 pounds. Not an all day shooter but a handy hunting gun. I just got a main spring for a sample and will probably test fire it before I brown the gun. I also found a set of peep sights for an old 22 that will screw right on to the flat side of tha action and it should make a good deer gun. I will try an post some pictures as work progresses. I will be taking it to UMML fall shoot dun or under dun.

Well I now have an underhammer buggy rifle in 54 caliber. I can't post pic because my camera is down but hopefully soon. Now I will need to sight it in at rendevous next week. I really hate to shoot it though as I HATE underhammers, have since about 1982 or so...
A friend Kenny came over one night as I was finishing my custom Hawken rifle. He has this Numerich buggy rifle carbine he got for $20 for his kid. We fix it up and Kenny takes it home and cold blues it and gives it to his boy. Well guess who has the prettiest gun and the next shoot and guess who wins all the prizes with that UGLY underhammer! Steve still has the gun but doesn't shoot it anymore as he got tired carrying all the prizes home! It's been near on to 30 years and I STILL hate underhammers!

Here it is, the barrel is 26" long and will take down. The peep sight is off an old 22 and the ramrod stop is also a flash guard to keep cap fragments off your arm. Attachments:

I went to the renevous yesterday and did some tradeing, now the above buggy rifle will join my .32, 50, & 58 this will be my 1st underhammer rifle, I do have a pistol in .42 cal That I have not shot yet. Need to make bullets for it yet. Thinking of useing this new rifle this deer seasion? at least for my doe tag. Anyway my little collection of muzzys now has underhamers as well but no side hammer yet, un like Red I don't call a nipple on top a side hammer.

And I thought you would buy the 50-90 rolling block or the German .58 Jager. I bought the full set of nice hand drill bit's for $11 I have several types of old drills that they can be used in, and on ocashion they are just what a guy needs. Think it's 6 drills total. the rareist I think is the corner drill I got at smokey hansons sale. and I have seen times when a vice drill was just the ticket too, and lord knows I now have a vice!!!!! lol. 289-1/2 pounds of one less that's the model # but as far as I know it weighs just what it says lol.

So you did see the little .45.... It was next to the 50-90. I thought/ think it will make a GOOD kids MLer. AND theres a lot of curl in the wood too!!! As for the 50-90 it was too light to shoot full loads in even the dealer admited that.. But Rick Metzler was eyeing it pretty hard !!!! I missed the German Jager what table was it on ?

50-90's are going to belt you sum, I don't feel the gun would be to light, if past experance is anything, just more gun than you two can handel I guess!! My 50-70 weighs almost 13# and you dont want to shoot it alot all day either. I thought one could get a good buy on it, just my pocket was emty. Don't know if I saw your .45 or not as only the 50-90 & jager were calling my name, the Jager was about 5 to 7 rifles left of the 50-90 short with wooden patch box and all German. If you bought them both DD I would trade my sideburn to you for them. smiles.
