A ruger for the farm in times when the ammo is costing more. A pistol cal rilfe to those who like bolts. near 800 MSRP I think it is over priced to sure. www.ruger.com/products/rotaryMagazine77357/models.htmlMight be a seller for them and in Indiana they are deer legal. A rotory mag of 180 grain 357's behind a stout load of say h110 or lil' gun.

Me too, but the price tag is little too high for one on a pension. I do love those number 1s though. They're probably my favorite rifle. Regarding the new .357/77, I can't help but wonder if Ruger wouldn't have been better advised to chamber it for the .357 maximum. It could probably still shoot the .357 mag. and possibly even .38 specials too. It would be a heck of a lot more versatile and IMHO would make a better deer rifle for those like Jabba and jmarriott who live in states that pretty much restrict you to handgun rounds for deer hunting. I know you can kill a deer with a .357 mag. I tried my best last season to get one with my .357 mag. barreled Handi- Rifle. The problem was I never saw a shootable deer when I was carrying it. I'll try again this season. I am convinced it would work out to at least 100-yds and maybe a little beyond. That would be a long shot around here anyway.

Dovehunter you are correct on the 357 max version. A rifle like that could bring it back from the past.
I am sure that action could handle the max pressure easy but the problem my be the rotory mag. I don;t think they made it big enough.
The handi you have can be hand reamed to max size easy. And then you can load it to 35 rem proformance.
The 77/44 is a very popular rifle in Indiana. Everyone like them and the twist rates are good to go for larger grain loads up to some of them 325 grain. I have had good luck with the bigger grain bullets like the 180's in my 357 contender barrels but in a handgun pnly my 686 likes them

I thought about the 357 Maximum, too. In a rifle, that would be a fine deer rifle. I think, though, the action of the 77/44 isn't long enough for the extra length of the Maximum.
