any reason to stay away from the Hornady Reloading Presses? i really want to finaly jump into this and why i am looking at Hornady is because i already have dies for the .243 an the 7-08 in Hornady. P.S. my typeing skills while not the best may even seem a lot worse lately because my friggen kids (and wife) have so much food crap stuck under these keys the "D" and "N" and a few others don't take all the time so i have to go back and pound on them har. it is a lap top and i have tried to blow stuff out of it but it just moves it around and then a differant key get's stuck you have no idea how long it took to get this written. ;D

With Used presses starting at $25 I would sure look there first. To answer the question Hornady is as good as any of them.

thanks. i know some brands are more user friendly in terms of available dies to use. but since i alreay have two of the three calibers i shoot in hornay dies it stands to reason i look into that brand.

Jim, I think you may be under a misconception. Dies these days are all a common thread, and so are the presses. There is absolutely no reason to favor a Hornady press (or disfavor it) because you have Hornady dies. Used presses can be a good buy, as Twomoons says- worth looking at. The RCBS Rockchucker is sort of the gold standard in presses- it's a good general use press that's been around forever, and lasts that long, too. Should be lots of those around used. The new Lee cast iron presses are getting good reviews, too.

i was under the impression from something i rea a couple years back that Hornady was one that id not play well with the others. i was under the impression that the other dies did not work well or at all in them. if i'm wrong, then great as it opens up a lot of possibilities.

Like Jack says - as long as your dies are the standard 7/8" (dia.) x 14 (threads per inch) they should fit in any standard press. I can't imagine you would go wrong buying anything with the Hornady name on it. IMHO Lee also makes some good stuff that is very reasonably priced. I have an RCBS JR press that I've had now for about 40 yrs. and have never seen the need to upgrade or replace it. The only recommendation I'd make is that you get an "O" frame press instead of a "C" frame. It shouldn't cost all that much more and they are a lot stronger.

over the years i would pick up a box or two of bullets for various calibeprs i own. right now i have several boxes of 100 gr hollow points in 7mm, i have to think they should be a joy to reload and shoot out of that savage striker. not to mention the deer approriate wts in 7mm i coud load for the .280, 7-08 rifles and the .243. but my first reloading desire is for the striker, just to see what i can get it to do this summer.

Good reloader, plays well with others. As far as the key board goes you can pop off the keys and clean under them very easily. On most key boards that is. Some of the older ones you can't but give it a try. Don't work right anyway.

Jimh,
Many laptops have a keyboard port or a USB port so save yourself the hassle of cleaning out the crap and buy yourself an external keyboard at the local MEGA LOW MART for about 10 bucks or so and a label that says,
This is JIMH's F"ing keyboard. Use the keyboard with all the crap in it so you learn that it messes up the keys.
Right now only the B key is sticking on mine. It appears to be chocolate sauce for ice cream.
Alcohol either grain or isopropyl does a good job on chocolate sauce with a dental pick and q-tips as I clean mine again. Grain Alcohol does not help on the spelling part if not used on keyboard.
