I was scrounging up brass at the range last week and ran across some .45 ACP cases that were headstamped "S&W". The cases looked relatively new. When did Smith & Wesson start offering loaded ammunition?

S and W ammo was common from about 72 to 76 or so, the Bangor Punta era. S and W Ammo was S#i!. In 73 they had a sale at the local store and Dad and I bought a ton of 22's. From every box 10 or more rounds were misfires. We took the unopened cartons back and the dealer wouldn't take them as EVERYONE who bought them was bringing them back. I still run across S and W once in a while and it brings back not so fond memories.

I have some S & W brass in 9mm and 45- range scroungings. The brass is good. I have a very faint recollection that Fiocci made the S & W ammo, but I'm not sure of that.
