Just to say on the forum what I said in the PM's I sent you, I think 200 is the full asking price the market would demand. Provided the barrel is good, it will shoot as good as the new rifles that cost at least double that.
It will probably be a decent little gun because Interarms makes the rifles for Lyman.
As far as twist goes, it will say on the barrel ;D You'll have to wait and see ;D ;D ;D If I was to guess, I'd say 1:48" because that's what the Lyman hawkin is.
I WANT TO BE THE SECOND PERSON TO SEE IT !!! I could swing by and take a look whenever it comes.

How much does he want for the mexico blanket in the picture background. Thats a big old blue bird.
I think if the barrels oK you're good. Once again I am most likely the worst to respond about anything you have to load from where the bullet comes out.

$369.00 new at Cabela's. Should be a 1-48" twist. Lymans are Investarms, made in Italy. I would assume this to be a close equal. If the bore is in good condition you got a pretty good deal. If somebody put it away dirty and let it sit for a couple years...you'll probably send it back. Let us know.

he said i could have 5 days to look it over and says the bore is glossy slick. i guess that's good. so is this more of a round ball gun opposed to sabots?

I WANT TO BE THE SECOND PERSON TO SEE IT !!! I could swing by and take a look whenever it comes. heck you'll probably need to be the first guy to shoot it, since i know nothing of black powders. now i gots to get me all that front stuffing stuff, like a powder horn, caps, powder (duh) and what not. damn now i want me a authentic beaver hat, but i'd settle for some beaver tonight ;D

We don't know what twist it is yet Even if it is a round ball twist and you wanted to play around, you can normally find either a conical slug, ballet (which is a hybrid ball/slug), or sabot that will shoot reasonably well out to 50-60 yards. We have a gut feeling that it's a 1:48" which is like a handyman. He can do anything but can't do it well. Round balls are likely ok out to 50-60 yards. Slugs are normally ok to 50-60 yards. Some sabots can do quite well. My rifle is 1:48 and it will shoot a nice 3-4" group at 100 yards --- it just can't do it when it's 90 degrees out. From a practical standpoint, I don't think you can ask for a whole lot more than that. Let's face it, 50-60 yards is all you're going to be shooting anyway in a typical hunting situation. If you want, you don't even have to buy much of anything right away. (don't buy a powder horn either unless you want it to dangle from your deer mount --- b/c that's about all it's good for. I retired mine after about 6 months) I have everything you would need to test fire and clean the rifle to see if you want to keep it. You might want to buy a pack of conicals, XTP sabots/bullets, etc. Once we know the twist, we can talk more about the type of projectiles you should be trying. The market has so many different 50 caliber offerings, it's almost endless. I have 3-4 products in mind. 1 or 2 of them will probably work well. We'll have to wait to see the twist.

I should of asked if you wanted in on the opening weekend muzzleloader doe(s) hunt at Busch's.
After seeing the deer I killed there last year, my dad and his buddy wanted in on it. So I piggybacked with their preference points and we just got word today that we drew the hunt.

Pyrodex RS or 777 ffg
I'd use the 777 if I were you. My next rifle will use that exclusivly.
POWDER, not pellets !

I've been around 4 different sidelocks. Most of the problems are with balls, ballets, and slugs. Mine - full barrel 1:48 Dad's - full barrel round ball twist Dad's - full barrel bullet twist Brother's - short barrel 1:48
With all of the guns, there are a number of projectiles that will clover leaf at 50 yards and then not even be on paper at 100 yards --- as in I have no idea where the heck that thing went. I had to go with a sabot just to hit paper at 100 yards. I went from missing the entire target with literally everything to drilling bullseyes.
All you can do is try them out and see. But in a 1:48 twist, my money is on some type of sabot (whether it's a 45 or 50cal bullet)

opposed to some folks around here i'm open to suggestions and opinions. then i'll try everything and let the gun tell me what it thinks. in the end i'll respect everyones ideas/opinions, but i'll listen to the gun.
