Went for a early morning walk to a old groundhog area and found some weird things going on.
It has been hot for 10 days and yesterday it went cooler. I could not believe the amount of wildlife I saw this morning. Rabbits were thick off the soybeans. You could not walk in the woods without hearing all the tree rats barking and running. I saw 3 mom coons and 4 for 5 babies each. Almost hit a deer on the road before dawn. Saw a skunk family at a trash can.
Finally got to the chuck area and did not see a single chuck but intead in the old g-hog den was a red fox family of 5 pups and mom. Came back to the truck along the creek and the little muskrats and ducks were in the water.
Right on my uncle creek were the tell tail beaver sign. No dam but downed and chew up trees. I have to call the game warden again before the trees are all gone in that area someone working hard again.
Over all it was a great experance as I grabbed over 3 quarts of blackberries in one area in about 30 minutes. I never fired a shot.

What a wonderful way to start the day!! 3 qt of blackberries is always worth the trip!! Amen to that! You know, some of my most enjoyable hunts have been those when I came home empty-handed. I have always believed that the quality of the experience is not measured by the weight of our game bag.

I have more berries to pick so I am off early again today. Already seen a masked bandit in the street as I was out of coffee and ran down to the quickie-mart.
The beaver is getting caught by the conservation officer in a live trap if he can. If not I am going to have a beaver skin to tan this winter. I have never seen one caught in a live trap but I guess there are dunb beavers just like people. There is the start of a dam passed my uncles and tree damage in that area also. At least they ate away the Willow trees around the bank where I set on a log I was starting to think I would have to hang a stand there.

Blackberries? or Black RASPBERRIES?
We have raspberries ripe... but BLACKBERRIES are a ways off still.
Ben LOVES the wild black Raspberries. Although we both keep getting chiggered finding them.
