I couldn't get out yesterday morning but did this morning. I killed 5 with the shotgun. Well, 4 1/2 And the 4 are tiny. I did see a HUGE fox squirrel that was black as coal. I had a low brass shell in my gun (have you seen the price of high brass) and I couldn't switch out shells fast enough. It would of been too far of a shot for the weaker load given the size of the squirrel. Oh well, it saved me 200 bucks b/c I would of had to get it stuffed.

Squirrell hunting in May. Seems totally foreign to me. We can't till August 15.
and I almost never do then.
Glad you had fun.
Do we need to have the high-brass vs low brass debate?

High & low only ment anything many years ago, now you must read lables And at no time in history did High or low make a differance in a squirrel kill. Shot size and patten with shot placement may have. Red just coun't come to kill the black bastard as T/M's noted the other day Red is very soft hearted LOL.

Don't you feel guilty shooting them when they're still hanging on mommy's teats.... YOu at least ought to wait until they are on solid food.... ;D ;D

Well now we don't need a High Brass Vs Low Brass Debate!! It should be illegal to shoot squirrels with a Shotgun!! Especially when the shot load outweighs the squirrel? Should be rifles only! And Jabba I understand, 1st Saturday in September every year in Iowa.

Well when it comes down to a 20 minute drive (to the shotgun only spot) or an hour drive (closest rifle spot), I'll take the 20 minute one this time of year. I had to get up at 4:15 as it was When you shoot 8 times as fast as you can reload a single shot, you don't pay attention to size ! THEY WEREN'T THAT TINY. They're just not your big grey squirrels. This is a 12" lid they're laying on

They're tougher than you think, the one took 2 shots to knock him to the ground and then 1 shot at 2 feet away when he played the "circle around the tree stump" nonsense !!!

I like the half tree rat at the top and bottom of the lid.
The problem with the aug 15 start is that it is sooooooo hotttt after 10 am that you got to get up at dawn. then at dawn the bugs are hard. I normally wait till the first frost to shoot em at least there not drinking milk.

As long as you stay out of the river bottoms and the tall marshy field, the bugs aren't that bad around here.
I guess it depends on who you ask though. I used 1/2 bottle of 40% deet OFF spraying all over my pants, t-shirt, arms, face, etc. They left me pretty much alone and I only got bit 3-4 times by the skeeters.
