so this winter we noticed what looked like a small black wart like thing on the tip of one of the nipples on my dog. then about 4 weeks ago it got ugly and grew real fast. so today i took her in for some surgery to have it removed and looked at. we'll know in a couple days what the final results are. my question to you guys is, does this sort of thing happen often and not much to worry about or is this something that will likely be an issue over time? she just turned 5 back in march. her mom got real ill very fast at age 8 and died in a month or two after dropping a bunch of weight in a few weeks. so in th eback of my mind i'm thinking there may be a health issue passed along in the genes.

My old basset hounds used to get tumors but not untill they hit 10-13 years old. They also get eye problems.
Nothing like a good dog. I have a terrier now a little west highland. What a dog but he is about 12 and getting that lazy stage of life. This year when it snowed he did not want to get in the snow. (Unless we had to go blood trail a deer). his eyes are going and so is his hearing. The nose still works well.

Had a beagle years and years ago who got to be about 12 years old or so. Towards the end he had a similar "black wart" near his eye.
Cause of death was a 22lr but he dropped a ton of weight, got sezures, and litterally just couldn't stand up anymore. Who knows what it was...

well if this pooch was 10 yrs or so (heck even 8) i wouldn't be as in such a hurry to find out what it was. i mean that thing took off and grew over night, ...was weird. so i'll find out next week what it was and decide what to do (if anything) if it occurs again in another one of her tit's. i was told it was only going to cost about 125.00 - 150.00 to find out, ........ it ended up closer to double that.

Is the thing full of puss and blood??? I remember the dog comming back from hunting and his face would be covered in blood from that thing popping.
Now that I think of it, he had that thing for several years.

now, it was long black and ugly looking. it basicly just ate up the nipple and grew on top of it.

well the tumor is not anything to be worried about but they did say it's best that it is removed. now though she developed croup or what ever. it started Sat and she sounded like a seal barking for a fish. once it would start up she couldn't stop until she pretty much through everything up that was in her. got her to the Vet on mon and even though they are pretty sure it is virol they put her on an antibiotic and gave me something for her coughing/weezing so she could both sleep and keep food down. she does get a yearly shot for kennel cough and they don't feel that's what it is. anyway she got exposed to something while in there two weeks ago for her surgery.
