Missouri has increased the daily limit of squirrels from 6 to 10. I'm not going to stand here and say I kill more than 6 squirrels on a regular basis, but it probably happens twice a year. It's nice not to to have to leave the woods with 30 minutes to go and squirrrels are still around you. It's also nice not to cross your fingers and hope the game warden isn't waiting in the parking lot No reason has been given as to why the change happened. I hope they don't insult our intellence and say that because of the economy you can now get more free food. That's a bunch of nonsense because most people lose money driving to go squirrel hunting and those who live in the woods don't pay any attention to the seasons and limits on them anyway I think it's a good decision as there are no shortage of squirrels around.

Last year down south in a area that has many there were few. I think "no nuts" means only male grays around. The fox squirels were active and plenty up north. The ones in the south I believe went to the creek lands and that area is rather high ridge. Shots at 10 greys would not be uncommon in a morning. If you hit all of those shots. They sure don't still long like the red's.
The very best time to tree rat hunt seems to be in deer firearms season as every one in the woods seem to come within 10 feet of me.
No limits on tree rats in a day in Indiana.

No one hunts them so there's plenty.
The season is the 4th Sat in May thru Feb 15th. Most people only hunt them labor day thru Halloween though.
If it wasn't for turkey season/poaching, I would think it would be year round.

I got thinking too - these things are going to get pretty heavy. I try to use a stick thru their legs. You kill 6 squirrels and you have a handfull. The stick often breaks under the weight Now add a couple more; it ain't going to happen. I think I'd have to use the game vest more often.

I have used the broken old steel type fishing stringers cut a hole in the leg of the rat and place in the stell bar and close the loop. I have seen a small leather rope with a steel ring or bar tried on the end used also. Like what i use to hold elec tape. These work well also. Now 10 red's might be a little heavy but 10 greys would not be bad. The way red's rats look after a 17 hmr shot maybe little body bags are in order.

August 15 is the first tree rat day in Indiana. Normally I don't go untill the first frost unless we go down south. No hunting for rats there when the guys are deer bow hunting.

The way red's rats look after a 17 hmr shot maybe little body bags are in order. You just give them a little twist and they come apart at the waist. You're going to throw the front half away when you get back, so why not do it in the woods as you collect them. No sense carrying the added weight ;D

Oops
Seems that the magazine that broke the news got the dates wrong.
It doesn't start until the 2010 season
