I don't think any of us are made of money and want to do an expensive trip. We have to remember several things that all up though
1. Gas is at an all time high so naturally it's going to be a big bulk of the cost. Hopefully multiple people can arrange rides together to cut the cost significantly. With people living all over the United States, it goes without saying that a 2000 mile round trip will occur for some.
2. Hunting tags are another cost. Even the cheapest nonresidence big game tags run around $200 for antlered and $50 for does. Bird hunting would be cheaper but I do have a couple thoughts about that I'll save for later.
3. hotel / food costs will add up. As I said before, people can fit 2-3 to a room if they wish. Camping would reduce costs as well if there are people interested and the property allows it.
Bottom line, I'm not sure this can be done for under 500 dollars for those a long ways from home. $750 would probably be a more realistic amount. That's just the cost associated of taking a trip (any trip) in the year 2008-2009. I think that whatever the cost is, I think it's a good social investment.
Obvouisly price will come together as we go along, but I wanted to just get everything in the open up front.
your thoughts?

With cost being a potential issue, multiple regional hunts may be an answer. That would keep travel costs lower and also allow for some diversity. Rather than picking just one hunt and one game selection divide it into 2 or 3. This may allow for some choice and potentially more participation.

I was thinking of that too and feel a bit divided on the issue.
On one hand, you could have 2 hunts consisting of 2-3 members each. It could be more convienent and a little cheaper. And I understand a couple may not be able to make it in the spring or fall.
BUT
On the other hand we're issolating the group a bit. Instead of 2 groups of 2-3, we can have one group of 4-6. You have the opportunity to meet more people. I think larger groups are a little more comforting. For all you know, I could be a complete idiot and you're stuck with me. Lets be completly honest here, very few actually know eachother. By playing the numbers game, someone may hit it off better with another person in the group that may not be there had there been two hunts.

For all you know, I could be a complete idiot and you're stuck with me. Red, I am not going to walk thru the door you opened. ;D ;D I see the other side too. While it is my opinion that one hunt should be the primary goal, it is an option to consider should the one hunt concept not come together. I have been fortunate to meet Bill, DD, Donnie, and Bridgefarmer (from the old site), plus a few trips to see Don Goins. What a great bunch of guys. Not a lemon in the bunch. I think it is a good goal to try and get as many members together in one place.
