On July 5th the breeder we have been working with and waiting for emailed me that she has just had a litter of 5 males and 2 females. We were 2nd in line in this litter for a female so it looks like we finally have a pup coming. One of the female pups is liver and white and the other one is black and white. Looking at the pictures we leaned toward the liver and white. I found out last night that the guy with the #1 pick wants the black and white so we should both get what we want. We have to wait until the pups eyes have been checked but the tentative pickup date is September 6th. I was hoping for Labor day weekend but she couldn't get an appointment with the eye guy before then.
We have come up with a name.....Genie or Jeannie. Same sound different spelling.
That is what our economic stimulus check is going for!!!!

I guess this pup was not meant to be ours. The last hurtle the pup had to pass was her eye exam. While the breeder had not experienced any issues with any of her pups to this point, this one did. While her eyes are OK, she has a genetic defect that would most likely be passed along to her pups. Her eyes would not be able to be certified. These are top of the line field bred springers and without the eye certification the value of her pups would severely be deminished. I would also not want to breed a dog that the pups could have eye problems. Because we are planning to breed the pup we get we have opted to pass on this one. I really liked how she looked and her personality was exactly what I wanted but it was not to be. She does have males for sale but we want a female. We are now 1st in line for her next female pup. She is planning on two litters in the spring of 2009 so we will wait again. This was really a downer. If we get a pup from one of these spring litters we will have been on the list for over two years. I have thought of looking with another breeder but I like this breeder's honesty and overall committment to putting out only top of the line dogs. The field trial breeders are a funny lot but this one doesn't fit that mold. Just a real good person to work with. So we will just have Panda for a little while longer. She will be put to work in a few weeks on our annual grouse hunt. I recently had a very serious offer to purchase Panda. I turned down the $3,000 offer with no hesitation. She is family. The pup we passed on is #7 in the attached link. www.autumnskye.com/violet2008/index.htm
