As you know I am a traditional rifle, round ball man. (and I'm off to the rodeo) I picked up a nice 50 caliber hawken style rifle real cheap with the intentions of having parts. When I got the gun it was tooo nice to part out so I fixed a crack in the stock ( that is now just about invisible) and tightened the breech and lapped out the bore. So far so good, but some one put a 1 -28 twist barrel on this thing.
The I got to thinking, who cares? If I only shoot at targets I don't need 110 grains of powder to killl a paper bull. Lo and behold 40 grains of FFg willl cut a 1 1/2" group at 50 yards and there is almost NO recoil. Hey this might be just the gun for shooting matches. Good accuacy and no recoil, this one will go to the summer shoot with me after the barrel gets re browned.

mmmmmm I have one that shoots better allso cheaper and Moon's built it. When is the summer shoot? as we all missed the spring shoot but you T/M's

Yeah, but I can't see 32 caliber holes any more. My other option for this was to use the parts for other m/l and the barrel was going to be turned and threaded to a Martini action and chambered to 50-70.

I LIKE the wus gun!!! 42 grains of FFFg and a 490 ball will group from the bench into just under 1 inch at 50 yards and it is a joy to shoot. I put on a new sight blade at the shoot and sighted for 25 yards dead on and then forgot the drop at 50. So I resighted for 1 1/2" high at 25, which is bottom hold on an NMLRA target and that shoots center at 50. I may rebrown the metal and put it in a decent stock before the Fall shoot. If I can get my other work done first.

Not a bad looking gun as it is, just a tad shiney.
