We brought Jack for a check up this morning ... I cannot believe the cost of a vet these days ... he got a shot and the doc looked over his foot where he had the operation a couple of months ago... checked his ears, eyes, etc... and sent me on my merry way ....
cost.... $200....
I think I've been in the wrong racket all my life ... he was with my dog .... hmmm... maybe 10 minutes... hell, if he saw 5 dogs an hour and charged the same thing per dog ... that's a thousand dollars an hour ... MY PLUMBER DON'T EVEN MAKE THOSE KIND OF WAGES... ;D ...

Red .. his rabie shot is due in January ... I think they gave it to him early... if it was rabies, it was a 2 year shot... but still .. I think it's a little high... but Mrs. Bubba brings all our animals there and she likes the place ... I can't get her to change her mind and switch vets ... believe me, I've tried...

There is a lot of disparity in vets. Some are really high, catering to the richies, who will spend $5K on Fifi to get her anal glands squeezed, others cater to working folks and are a lot more reasonable. I have a vet office 1/2 mile from my house... I graduated from high school with the doc. I take my dogs 15 miles down to road to an outfit I like a lot better, and can afford.

I agree w/ Jabba on this one. Shop around and find a vet who 1. knows dogs. 2. YOU like and will listen to you. And 3. You can afford. I've heard back from people I've sold puppies to who while we're talking mention their vet prices. I can tell you I couldn't afford the prices!!!!

The we brought a (shhhhh) "cat" ((cringe, shutter, gag, choke, cough)) to a vet that said it had some kind of Leukemia then told us that it should be put down... well, Mrs. Bubba liked the (shhhh) "cat" and decided to take it to another vet before I took it home and shot it... that was 7 years ago and the cat is still living in the house with us ... the second vet gave it a shot and told us it had some kind of flu bug... The second vet is the one we bring our animals to now...
I have checked around and there isn't many vets around that don't charge "BIG" money to take care of your animals. Damn yearly rabies shot is on the average of $100 when you bring it to a vet.... I usually wait until the SPCA has a "shot clinic" and get my beagles done for $10 each ... but the Mrs. would rather spend the money... believe me, it's a sore spot...

Oh, the first vet with the "cat" wanted $200 to put the damn "cat" down ... I think she just wanted the $200 and didn't much give-a-crap about the animal... I told her she was out of her mind... I could do the job for the price of a .22 bullet...
