Fox new's anounced tonight that Wallmart is recalling all its Old Roy dog food. Seems it destroys dogs kidneys. Its about time, Donnie told me it would do that a long time ago and to not ever use it or he would beat me.

huh... I fed Ol'Roy for a LONG time with no trouble. The two dogs that I fed them Ol'Roy for their whole life and they both lived to be 13 or so. One was a Lab, and the other a Lab - Irish Setter cross.
I have been feeding Diamond now. I'll bet people have trouble with that too.

Got me Jabba. Donnie is the expert on these things. It use to be his job to find out all that stuff but since he changed jobs I don't know what he knows about that dog food. Just have to ask him.

My wife got a ting in her e-mail about this subject. There were 35 -40 different brands out there that did the same thing. From what the letter stated, it was the manufacture switched suppliers for the ingredient's in these foods. They made it in the same way, just the new place had different additives for preserving it. If she still has the wright up on it, I'll post it. This way you can see all the brands being recalled....

Don't know if this has anything to do with this ? But some put in Chicken feathers And a dog will surely do poorly on that stuff as their protine and I think feathers would mess up any kidneys or anything else, ughh

Yup, Donnie said it was the chicken feathers that caused the problem. Took your post to jog my memory of what he said.

I heard that about Ole Roy.. so I've been feeding my critters IAMS for years. If I can't get it for some reason, I go to the old stand-by Purina dog chow...

There was a big thing on ABC news about this tonight- a ton of different brands being recalled- all came from the same parent factory. The culprit (they think) is wheat gluten from a new supplier to the dog food factory. BTW, my impression is that all the recalls are for canned dog/cat food, not dry pet food.

Yup, Donnie said it was the chicken feathers that caused the problem. Took your post to jog my memory of what he said. The problem w/ feathers is that thay are 100% protein. By adding feathers the protein content of the dog food is upped considerably. BUT feathers are 0% digestible protein!!! So you can starve your dog down while feeding a "higher" protein food. If it has feathers in it don't buy it.

I have been using Purina One and I can gaurentee that the proteen content is all digestable. Molly weighs almost 70 lbs now. Heck she was the second from the smallest of her litter. Bill i have to second the Purina 1, C.C. has been on it for three years now and she is one shinny dog. her coat just gleams. also i saw someone hear mention IAMS, i thought where i saw that was made by the same parent company as these others. can anyone confirm that?
