As most of you guys know I live on a farm... it's not all that big but it's big enough... lately (in the middle of the night) I've had a pack of dogs chasing MY rabbits... I can hear at least 3 dogs AND a beagle... I don't know what kinds of dogs they are but I can pick out the baying of a beagle mixed in... I've called the Dog Wardens and they say because they are not here all the time, there's not much they can do about it... I'd hate to shoot them but I'm leaning that way... I've asked for traps to be set but the wardens say they don't have enough traps to let everyone have them...
What should I do??... I know I can take them out if I can see them ... but I'd hate to have to do that...

Who do they belong to Bubba? Have you talked to your neighbors?
I too hate to shoot a dog...

Mountain lion poop is said to keep dogs out. That may seem like an impossible task but if you have zoos in the area droppings from big cats keep dogs away or so it is rumored.

Another thought, at one time I had trouble with dogs getting into my garbage. I bought a 717 Daisy pump BB pistol. The dogs didn't need much training. They soon associated sticking their head in the garbage can with a BB in the butt. Afriend at the police department told me that there were a lot of people in my neghborhood who 'although their dogs were religiously tied up, someone came around and shot them in their back yard'. ya right (Oh Yea, the policeman friend was a normal sort of fellow - not like most.)
If you don't like the idea of BB's you might try paint ball guns. I understand that paint balls hurt like hell but no permenant damage. Their owners might get to see that their dogs are not always where they are supposed to be.

Shoot them - they're just dogs.
I'd shoot them in the gut with a 22. That way they run home to die and you don't have to dispose of them.

Red... I have thought it 10,000 times, and said it only a few, but man... you suck.
You shouldn't do that to ANYTHING on purpose. If you're gonna shoot it, do it as quickly and cleanly as possible, get off your drunk ass, and get rid of it.
Sheesh. It's crap like that that makes PETA people hate us. And you want Nancy Pelosi to be speaker of the house! AAAAUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH My head is gonna explode.

Jabba, I have thought the same thing but I'm one of those that mostly for some part keep my mouth shut and don't say it but I also need to say it. Red you suck. Ya said some dumb things in your time but that one might of taken the cake for the worst. I would rather shoot the owners in the gut as the dog is doing what dogs do, that is if their owners just let them run. I think it was in PA or one of the other eastern states that a guy was running his 3 beagle dogs on rabbits on property that he had permission on. Problem was the dogs didn't know (although the rabbit probably did) that they didn't have permission on the adjoining property. The owner of that property observed the three dogs running onto his property and pulled his .357 and shot all three dogs. He claimed that they were running deer. It was later found that the dogs when they spotted him ran to him in excitment (to see what he knew about the whereabouts of the rabbit I suppose) and the dogs were shot at point blank range multiple times. If I remember right the man now has to pay $1500 per dog. So when you gut shoot a dog so it runs home to its owner before it dies. Remember one thing. The owner might not appreciate what you did and their might be some sort of retribution. Hope you can run fast too after being gut shot.

My lab is so close to me. I would be so upset if anyone hurt her. I am very happy to hear about that jerk paying for the Beagles. I personally would not take $1,500 for my lab though.
I know I had that anti-dog thread on pit bulls. And I may be placing myself in a position of what is a proper dog and an improper dog. But mean people and mean pets -- well at best I like to avoid them.
I had a dog that I dearly liked but a neighbor kid kept coming over and continued teasing her. Threw stuff at her, taunted her, and hurt her. Finally the neighbor kid climbed my back fence and was hitting my dog with a stick. The dog bit the kid in self defense (there were witnesses). The neighbors called the cops. The cops came and asked if I wanted to press charges against the kid. They told the neighbors it was the kid's fault. But as much as I liked that dog and my kids liked that dog I let her go. A dog that bites kids won't work for me.
I had a crazy neighbor in Sturgis that poisoned a Springer Spaniel that belonged to my 5-year-old daughter. He did it to watch the dog die. He was in and out of the hospital and eventually was kept there for good in the locked ward. Another neighbor came over and told me that he confronted this crazy dude after my dog died and just before the crazy guy went back to the hospital for good. The crazy guy bragged about how the dog died in agony and he enjoyed watching it die. There never was a more fun loving dog than that Springer.

Man,.............$1500 won't even touch my dogs. I think I'd rather punch the guy in the neck til he stops breathing!

I guess it just depends on how and where you were raised.

One other option, live traps. My brother uses them all the time on raccoons. He likes to set the coons free and shoot them with his Thompson. However, if you don't plan on shooting the dogs, The traps don't hurt them one bit. You can also move the traps with the dogs inside to another location, even if they are vicious. Back to the neighbors or to the pound or to where ever. It would be hard for the neighbor to deny that their dog was at your place.
