We've had her two weeks yesterday. She's 9 weeks old as of today.
She's doing good, already holding her bladder and stool while in the crate, and actually while in the house too. She's only had a couple house accidents and a couple crate accidents in two weeks! That's awesome. She'll pee and poop when you take her outside within the 1st 2 minutes almost every time out.
Growing like a weed. I'd bet she's close to doubled her weight in the last 2 weeks. 6 to 10 or 11 lbs is my guess, although I have not weighed her. She's starting to recognise her name, and seemed like she understood NO almost immediately.
She's taking to the crate with not a lot of whining ever, and even less now. She likes to fetch already and will ofter stalk up on a thrown toy and pounce on it at the end.
We take walks on the lead although not religiously like Bill. She gets a lot of exercize playing with Cooper, my 3.5 year old. He lowers the game to her level a lot, as long as I give him some individual attention and REAL exercize.
Bailey follows Cooper around and does a lot of what he does. She has an excellent role model in being a good citizen dog. If she follows his lead, she'll be a real joy to have in the house.
With all the bragging she's still trying to get into everything, and taste everything. The good part is when told NO... she stops immediately. We keep a total eye on her and she's either monitored or in the crate and id doing great.
Man puppies are a lot of work...

;D Ya that they are. But its fun because we both know what the end results is going to be. Molly is about 28 lbs now. She still wants to crawl up in my lap and have me hold her but its getting to be with her being all legs that their just isn't room for me and her on the chair at the same time. I had problems with her getting into the garbage can and jumping up on the table while we were eating or even when we wern't and dragging things off. We solved both problems very simply without having to spank her or say no or anything. We set mouse traps on the table and in the garbage can. ;)She don't do that anymore. Its funny watching a dog with a mouse trap on its nose and paw. ;D Especially when she looks at you and your clear across the room and she knows you did it and wern't even close. ;D I've lightened up a bit on the walks but still do a couple really long ones a couple times a week. Most of the time she is awsome but once in a WHILE The chewing on us is still there but now its more by accident than on purpose. Playing DUMMIE is short and I keep it that way, only about 6-9 retrives and then we quit. I have that plastic dummie with a pheasant wing on it with some pheasant scent on that. It gets pretty hot and heavy for those retrives though. 50-60' retrives with her sitting until I tell her to fetch then watch her burn paws all the way across the lawn. ;D Any other fetch is with a small canvas dummie that I leave lying about which she will bring and want me to play with it with her but I have had problems with her wanting to play tug-of-war with it and the minute she starts that I quit. Don't mean she don't want to do it the next time but when it starts we quit again. The one thing about the whole pup thing though is this. It gets us off the couch and makes us do something.

Well, I don't have the couch issue. I can't sit still and never could. Mrs. Jabba... she glues her ass to the sofa ocassionally and the pup is helping with her... but I can hardly sit still long enough to watch a TV show. I am always puttering with something. It's just the pup a lot right now.

Oh btw Bill, I use mouse traps to discourage counter and garbage can surfing as well. It really does work very well.

Mentioning the dogs cage reminded me of visiting with a friend to his girlfriends lakeside cottage for a weekend of fishing. She had a young Labrador at that gangly stage. Whenever the dog was inside she kept it in a wire cage. I've had dogs all my life, but never owned a cage and thought it was cruel. Several things were noticable though. Whenever the dog came in from outside it headed right for its cage. It actually seemed to love the damn thing. For my benefit she would let it out, but within a couple minutes, the dog had returned to it's cage. I guess it recognizes the cage as its home. You're right, they won't do their business in their home, cage or otherwise. Maybe I need to rethink my views on the wire cages. Best wishes.

Yeah... the dogs will eventually love their crates, and view tham as a retreat. Once the dog gets to be a year or year and a half old, and you can trust them alone in the house... it'll use the crate and you never have to shut the door. I use crates as transport too, as it's a lot more safe for a dog in a car to be crated.

;D Its a lot safer for the driver too with the dogs in the cage. I took the wife to the store and let Molly sit in my lap when I first got her. Course their bladders arn't the best when it comes to control at that age and wouldn't you know it. Someone see's her and has to come and pet her. She gets excited and pee's on me while the guy is petting her. I would of got pissed except that she needed the socialazation of strangers and I knew it wasn't her falt due to little control of the bladder. So I just lived with it. Wife says what happened to you and I said Molly got petted. I think the wife is still laughing at that one.

Well I haven't had problems with bladder control as of yet. That could change someday though I suppose Age will probably cause that one.
