I, like Jim, monitor my dogs intake as closely as possible through-out the season. Is that why you let your dog get our box of donuts in the back of the truck that morning ? you where carefully monitoring her needs that morning. ;D i'm still pissed they got all the good ones.

Jim, It was really cold out that day and she really needed the extra fat to help her get through the tough conditions! Who the hell brings donuts on a bird hunt anyway?................If ya come back up this fall she will give you a bowl of Purina pro plan in exchange. Hell maybe we can talk Bill into joining us for some grouse and woodcock hunting here in Wisconsin? And once again no alcaholic beverages after the hunt!

LOL on the Donuts JimH. No doubt it was the pup that got into them and Will just went along for the ride. I can see and feel her ribs Donnie and I have uped her intake and she seems to be a lot more amendable and does not chew on Julie near as much. Evedently she isn't near as hungry ;D

Yup rough conditions. I honestly do still feel bad about the weather Jim! It's so hard to forcast what's gonna happen that late in the year. If we had not gotten that big snowfall the hunt would have been much better. I hope that you weren't too disapointed. So many of my better areas were under snow and the birds were pushed out of them. I can't even begin to tell ya the panic I felt after our first day of beating ourselves to death against waist deep snow drifts! I was truly concerned! Guess I should not have insisted we wait for the cold weather of late season. You guys were real troopers though and never complained. I was impressed! Not bad fer a couple city boys LOL!

You still doing that cold weather thing Donnie. Here I thought you would of given that up by now. I think every time you and I went someplace the weather either got Hotter than the hubs of hell or colder than a witches thingamabob in in a brass holder in north alaska or tornado's were going all around us and hail the size of golf balls coming down. The one and only time the weather was perfect was when we went up north for Ruff Grouse. Now that was awsome.

Was hoping we could do that again soon! Yup your right the weather never has cooperated for us. I don't know maybe it's me, seems like everytime I wanna share something really awesome with someone the weather bites me in the A$$. I was out running the dogs yesterday, we flushed a few woodcock in my favorite woodcock covert! Glad to see the local birds but this damn rain has been comin down steady for a week sure wreaks hell on the upland birds! I guess all there is to do is hope for the best and wait and see.

Not sure who is to blame for the weather Donnie. ;D I just blame the hunting and fishing gods. Anyway it works for me. I think another light went off today. We had an awsome morning doing our obediance training. About 4 days ago I got tired of her trying to drag me back to the house for something to EAT. Dang don't that ever leave their mind. Wolters book says train before feeding as they get listless after eating. Cha Right. I think the reason they finally begin to obey is because they finally find out that disobediance prolongs the wait for food. This morning we went out to do our duty. I have her trained now to use the neighbors yard rather than mine ;D Makes mowing less oderforous Then we went on our 30 minute training walk. Well we covered the same distance and in took 10 minutes less as she didn't try to drag me, set when I comanded her without having to holler at her or make her set manually. Twice we had to stop and sit because we were trying to drag and sit for a while. I'm now making her set and stay while I walk circles around her and sometimes even drop the leash and walk away. That isn't working very good yet but were getting there. She has now figured out she shouldn't be chewing on my shoes. They sometimes can jump up to bite you. ;D But she also figured out that if I'm not there things can change. After reading Wolters book on Family dog it helped a lot and I wish I would of had it from the start but I don't think we did too bad. Lots of what he says I had been doing on past dogs and had found it too work. ;D One thing I have found is that it seems it don't make any differance what breed it is Females are just a bit more trying than males. Smarter dogs can be more ornery then stupid dogs until the light finally turns completly on than its WOW thats an awsome dog. BUT were slowly getting there one step at a time. Tomarrow she will prove me totally full of it though.

I remember the pup hands. Mine were always bloody with Cooper. They don't do it on purpose... but those puppy teeth are CRAZY sharp.
