Tuesday morning I said my last goodbyes to Teal, She had conjestive heart failure and had an attack on the front porch when I let the dogs out for thier morning constitutional. I spent her final minutes with her holding her big old head on my lap and telling her that she was a good dog and that I loved her with tears streaming from my eyes as she forced her final breaths. When I finally got myself together again I carried her out to the garage so Shannon wouldn't have to see her when she got home from work. She was more dog and a better friend than I ever deserved. This morning I've just been in my den going through old photos and looking at awards and plaques she won in her carreer as a field trial and National bird dog challenge competitor. Soon I'll go out to get her and load her in the truck so she can go to the vet to await cremation.

Hello donnie,
Sorry for your loss. I lost Fritz, my Giant Schnauzer, six years ago, and it really shredded me. It's amazing how attached to our dogs we can become. The wife and I couldn't even mention his name without bubbling over. I drove over 500 mles, mostly in a snowstorm to get another Giant Schnauzer, a puppy. A new puppy seems to cure all wounds. When you're retired and the children have fled the nest, a dog takes on new meaning. He's no longer "just a dog." I guess time is also a great healer. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear she's gone Donnie. It is so tough to have a very good friend that you have been with for years have to go. It is too bad that their lifespan can't be longer so we wouldn't have to go thru this loss many times during our lifetime.
They do live on in our memory and we relive, and you are doing now looking thru the pictures, the so many good time we shared with our canine best friends.
I am sure she went peacefully in the arms of her best friend in the world.
Damn Donnie I have to quit....tears are starting in my eyes as I think of this. It makes me realize that some day I will be in the same situation with my best friend.

I already told you how I feel about it Donnie. Just so you know, its been almost 5 years and Buck is still with me at times. I can be sitting in a chair watching tv and I feel my hand start to bounce and I know its Buck bouncing my hand with his head trying to get me to pet him. Or I can be out walking and I feel the same handbouncing there he is again. Sometimes when this happens I get to laughing and the wife will know exactly what is going on as she still has the same thing happen to her. It all just reminds me that he is watching and waiting. He knows I will be with him someday again.

Donnie, I'm really sorry to hear that news. I've lost a few dogs over the years, and it's always hard- damn hard. Teal at least was where she wanted to be in her last moments- with you.

Donnie... crappy deal man. I have posted this over and over but it is still relevant...
Dogs take a piece of your heart, and give you all of theirs in return. We make out on that deal EVERY time!
My old lab Maggie is close to having to be put down. He cancer is starting to make her hurt I think, and I am just not willing to let her suffer. I thikn we'll be visiting the vet within the next week or to to ease her pain. I owe her that. 13 years old the day before yesterday.

Sorry to hear about this. I recon we've all been through it at least once in our lives. Ol' Dodger was a good ole boy and I miss the old codger. When I handled dogs in the military, I had the notion that dogs should work for a living and they were only dogs... that was until my dog was KIA. I finally realized they were just as much a friend as they were a co-worker.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks fellas. We are having her ashes put into a wooden duck decoy so she can still go with me to hunt.
