I purchased a can of IMR4831 today at the range. Only it's not a metal can like it formerly was. Now it's a plastic cylindrical powder container much like those used by Hodgdon, which figgures since Hodgdon recently bought them out. I liked the older cans since they took up much less room. All these years of using IMR powders, and I never saved a metal can. Later they might be worth a little something as collector items. That won't help me now though. The tho9ught came too late. Oh well, the cans will be only a memory now. Best wishes.

Now you tell me... ...Just a couple weeks ago I was cleaning out my garage, where I had my loading bench for many years. There was a shelf with probably 10-12 empty powder cans, all metal, most IMR with a couple W-W also. I looked at them and figured that if I had never found a use for them in all these years, they were garbage...they're long gone now...

Probably, those metal IMR cans will be worth a little some day, but I doubt they'll be worth a lot. Personally, I guess I'm in the minority- I never did like those metal cans. Yeah, they stored compactly on the shelf, but the spout was too narrow, IMO, and you'd have a heckuva time getting the last few grains of powder out of 'em. Give me the wide mouth plastic cans that Hodgdon uses, or even better, the wide mouth plastic rectangular cans that Accurate Arms uses- they store nice on the shelf and are easy to get powder out of, and pour it back in. Winchester used to use round metal cans with a small spout- the worst of both worlds, IMO. Now they use a rectangular plastic one- a big improvement, IMO.

I wish in Australia we could get IMR powders in any sort of container.

Hllo, Hold onto those cans. A Shooter in New Orleans had all his stock submerged for several days. The only cans that survived were those metal cans. Not only do they stack/store better, they are better. The source of this is 'Ribbonstone' at the BeartoothBullets forum. Frank
