I know we've talked a lot about the .17 HMR vs. coyotes, bobcats, coon, ect. But yesterday I took mine out rabbit huntin' (we have to damn many rabbits!! ) Anyway it was just plain fun!!!!! They don't even move they just fall over lol lol It does make a hell of a exit so ya got to be careful where you make your shot. IMHO the .17 HMR is a hellva rabbit round !!! DD

I agree don...and bounce lol...
Rabbits are pretty big, but they don't much to kill. I personally think a good hollow point 22lr will do the job equally as well inside of 50 yards...but after 50 yards I think the hmr is hard to beat provided you don't hit the hind legs or back loin. So you destroy the front legs and the ribs...just kill another rabbit and it'll equal out...

I don't doubt that the 17 HMR would be effective of bunnies. But around here, unless you are going to hunt with a spotlight.... ...Whoops, did I say that out loud?....... ....Anyway, you may hunt for years before you could "legally" take a rabbit with a rifle.....

W/ a GOOD scope there's nothing saying you can't shoot a rabbit @ 100 yds. Which makes it even more fun. Or do your rabbits get spooky even when your a 100 yds away ?

Red I'm just trying to light up the dark space between the two moons, and cause an explosion that may blow an extractor my way!!

If any rabbit in my area ventured out where you could see him at 100 yards, he'd be predator food before a hunter ever saw him.
Maybe in the old days. I can recall hunting rabbits in fairly open cover, and a guy could plink one every now and then. But today, most rabbits we have are in cover so dense you have a hard time getting a shotgun pellet through, let alone catching one sitting.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out how you guys can hit a rabbit with either a .17 or a .22.... I have a hard time hitting them with a 20 guage.... If they're not sitting ... do you still shoot at them? I'm like 54, most of the rabbits around here certainly will NOT sit still long enough for you to shoot at them with a shotgun.... let alone a bullet...
