Today is the opening day of my favorite season... RABBIT.... AND IT'S A BUST!! ... it's pouring down rain here this morning... what a mess... I got up, went outside to get LittleBoy and got soaked before I could open the pen door... so I turned around and came back in the house... threw my wet clothes in the dryer and turned on OLN and watched some idiot try to outfish another idiot... most rediculas thing I ever saw...
Anyway, the weather forecast is going to get better tomorrow... cold with little or no wind ... that is good rabbit hunting weather.... LittleBoy was a little discusted with me but he'll get over it... ;D

The second day is BUSTED too... it's raining and windy.... man, I hope it clears up soon!! The dog wants to go, I want to go, my buddy (who I invited) wants to go... but the dern weather will NOT cooperate.... it really sux sitting around all day at home with nothing to do...
My grandson lent me his ATV for the whole season... that's like one of you guys giving up something pretty for 2 months... This time I have the ATV locked up in the barn with a 1" logging chain wrapped around it and around the wheels and then locked to a center post of the barn. The only way some SOB is going to steal this one is if he brings a very big pair of bolt cutters... I've even invested in a couple case hardened locks... You are not supposed to be able to cut through this stuff with a hack-saw...
Anyway, it may clear up later this afternoon, if it does... bye-bye bunnies.... I have to have at least 4 by Thanksgiving morning... My mother is going to cook them as part of the Dinner Feast...

If it rained for 2 days, you'll have to wait a few days for the fields to dry out. I wouldn't want to sit on the wet ground - I'd be in a hole too...

Bubba, have you ever hunted rabbit on a cold, wet day with paper shells? I got a deal on some Olympic paper shells from Europe once and carried them in my belt loops on a snowy, rainy day. Those damn things warped and wouldn't feed for love nor money. That's been some years ago and I still haven't used paper shells again. Best wishes.

Cal, The first time I shot a shotgun was with my Dad's Model 12 Winchester with paper shells... plastic shells weren't invented yet... LOL ... but to answer your question, yes, I've hunted ducks with paper shells in the worst weather... Up in L.I.N.Y. hunting on the Great South Bay it was the norm back in the 50's and early 60's... the weather up there was pretty nasty during the winters... we hardly ever went duckin when it was a blue-sky day... it was always nasty... We used to keep our shells in an old steel ammo box until it was time to load up... our problem then was ejecting the shells... they would swell up inside the shotgun...
Once I got water down the barrel of my shotgun... the shell got wet down inside the chamber... well, I shot at a duck and went to eject the shell and all that came out was the brass ... man what a mess I had trying to get the shell casing out of that chamber... back then shotguns were not made to come apart like they are today... I had to quit hunting for the day, go home and try to fish the thing out with a cleaning rod... what a mess...

Hi Guys , down here in New Zealand rabbits are on the hunting menu all year round , but it gets wet here too , so the rabbits get some days off .. Just a thought , you may want to keep an eye on those heavy hardened locks , a trick poachers use to get around locked gates is to take a co2 fire extinguisher and spray the freezing stuff over your best lock , then give it a swipe with a hammer , most times this busts your hardened lock , these sob's may not be bright , but they sure aren't stupid .. Just a pity there isn't a season for hunting them ..Flint

At the price of fire extinguishers you can bet it was stolen too!!
