First time out this season - going to be a long 3 weeks... Weatherwise - nice day. Well the morning was off to a good start as the birds flew off the roost in the opposite direction of me. After 630, I didn't hear a gooble again until 1200 (and then only one) And on top of that I was exausted and almost to the truck when I stepped right on top of the biggest nastiest snake I ever saw !!! So I jumped 4 foot high in the air, screamed like girl (It was a pathetic sight) and shot the snake all in the same motion And I get to do it again on sunday...

Red:
I had almost the exact same thing happen to me years ago when I was dove hunting. There was no action and it was quiet and warm. I must have dozed off while sitting up against a tree. A sixth sense made awaken to see about a 4 ft. copperhead about 2 ft. from one of my boots and headed even closer. Somehow or other I jumped into the air from a sitting position and I swear I got off three shots before hitting the ground and blew the snake all to hell. That just about scared the living crap out of me. I bet I didn't fall asleep any more that afternoon.
